dealers - am I being too sensitive about this?

Featured Replies

Hi

am awaiting my new skoda - 10+ weeks but due in next week.

during this time I've had to MOT my PX - spent £450 or so on this. Have written to dealer to say how about splitting cost of this as value of PX has now risen, plus 10+ weeks for delivery!

Faxed letter (postal strike) got no answer. Posted letter - still no answer.

No call either re likely/imminent delivery of new Skoda.

Am I being sensitive or should I expect more?

also only very short test drive (nop petrol in car) in a saloon when I wanted an estate and only had chance to test 1.9 not compare with 2.0.

what do people think?

PS was asked to put down a £1k deposit in mid Aug.... would I get any of that back I walked away now?

Not knowing what car you're trading in, but have you also considered the depreciation in value of the car over that time? Or did the dealer quote the PX based on value when you were due to take delivery of the new car.

Trouble with MOT, etc is it doesn't really add that much value. It just makes it look more attractive. The fact money had to be spent doing this is just part of car ownership sadly.

Doubt you'd get any deposit back. I would perhaps see if you can pressure them for a full tank of fuel, and some mats or something, when you go to pick up the car.

Your best bet is to go in and see the dealer. I would be a little wary of trying to claim that you have enhanced the value of your PX as the dealer is just as likey to say that he valued it accordingly and it has since dropped in value - touche.

Welcome to the site.

I'm sure there is something about part exchange of car that have to have 3 or maybe even 6 months mot on them anyway?

Not sure you can ask for more money because you have had to do things the dealer would of had to get done to sell the car on?

It's no good customer service if they have not returned call or letter either.

like Stu said it would be best to go and chat with the manager and what they say ;)

Welcome :)

ordered mine 2307 and got it 2610 but it was a special order 1.9 tdi Octavia elegance estate with luxury pack. Dealer originally stated beginning of October but could be late September. Spoke to dealer a couple of times stating usual find out about a week before it arrives, Next phone call "Its here" then another 4 days waiting for the PDI.

Only paid £500 deposit (no P/X) and nothing else until I picked the car up. Well worth the wait and if I can get my head round the maxidot and rain sensor...it hasn't rained yet while driving.

one thing the receipt stated I bought the L and K I wish and also charged me £165 road fund instead of the £118.50 it states on the disc...currently under negotiation:confused:

thanks to those that have posted on the topics printer working o/t:)

Oh and welcome

welcome, you are probably feeling a bit fed up, but I do not think you can claim anything from the dealer as they hold all the ace's (the deposit). I feel for you because it was unlucky that the mot ran out. However if you got an agreed delivery date and the dealer missed this then you have got a claim against them I believe.

sorry gents about the double post ...trigger finger and newbie

I don't think "long MoT" makes any odds on a trade-in; most decent dealers sell used cars with a new test on them anyway.

Usually the dealer will on their order form put some disclaimer about delivery dates be variable.

Try the "good will" Gesture for some fuel.

To be honest if a dealer had not offered me a test drive suitable for my needs I'd have pushed it, they need to sell cars at the end of the day. Depending where you live there could be other dealers.

If you still have some tax on your car whip it out when you go and pick your new one out and send off to the DVLA for a refund, will make you feel better, if dealer contacts you tough on them, was in the car when I left it mate!!

bit of a poor show from the dealer, they should have at least rang you anyway to keep in touch.

the problem is they may have valued your px when you ordered the car, now you car has had 10 weeks of book drops to deal with, its probably worth less, even with the work done!

Thanks everybody - I'm sure new car buzz will return when it finally arrives.

Great website.

I'm getting a 1.9tdi octavia elegance with extras... I did benefit from the free upgrade from Ambience and got dealer to throw in £210 worth of extras...

So the car doesn't come with a full tank of petrol?

Thanks again

Chris

Fuel depends on the dealer. It wil get to the dealer with naff all in it due to transport regulatons, I'm usually instructed to put £10 in them
