Vrs-si, headlight retaining springs aren't very good springs, so you could just bend them to get a bit more pressure on the bulb bases.

ethos my hids cost 65 quid inc delivery from hong kong and has taken just under a week to arrive.

yes, the lower the K, the yellower the light, but just becuase a high temperature is more blue, and is somehow 'dimmer' doesn't mean that its putting out less or more light, its just that that light has a different wavelength and so will be less useful in certain situations, like in a car headlamp where you want as much 'throw' as possible.

I agree with the general consensus, though, that hotter bulbs will attract more (unwanted) attention that cooler, yellower ones.

Are the ballasts too big to fit inside the cover on an octy II then?

god knows how ive mounted mine. it did come with brackets but theres no space to fix em so ive used double sided tape

i bought some bosch hid h4's for my octy I from china or hongkong on ebay and they are crap. the color changes and from green to purple then may be blue [6k] and the scatters badly so are useless.

Never heard of a yellow xenon bulb, this would need to be around 3000K.

4300K gives the brightest & whitest light, which is why OEM are around 4300K - 4500K.

As you increase in K, the lumen/brightness goes down [the less usable the light becomes, as it goes bluer (from 6000K) and then purple (around 10k -12k)]

6000K is the most popular colour, as most people who fit aftermarket xenons are not just after better light, they also want a blue tint to them, as apparently it looks 'cool'

I dont think that Bosch make aftermarket HID kits. I think that someone in china may make a box that says Bosch on it, but me thinks that they aint real Bosch.

a website with a known company selling this type of light possibly bosch i cant remember.

also i see on ebay recently one off headlamps! using standard glass and xenon backs using oem tubes etc. got upto £120 i think but the seller removed them. do any of you think it would be a cheap alternative to buying whole units from skoda?

Wilksy, it looks to me from your description like the PDs don't put the arcs the correct distance into the lenses to focus properly.

Not meaning to sound like i'm getting at you, but i said yellowER, not yellow. White is a lot cooler (and yellower) than blue in the light spectrum, which is why the best bulbs are between 4 and 5000 K.

As for the second point, sorry, but i'm going to have to call you on that. Lumens is lumens is lumens. doesnt matter what temperature the light is, its still kicking out the same amount of light, and the same brightness. just becuase its less 'useful' or visible, doesnt mean its not there. I have an Infra-Red torch which i use with nightvision in games similar to paintball, and the light emmited from that is invisible to the human eye, even at the emitter. so, as a 'useful' torch, it's really not, unless you have suitable equipment to use it. anyway, just becuase the light is not visible, doesnt mean its not there. After just a few seconds of this torch pointed at your hand, you can feel it start to warm up. it still kicks out a good few hundred lumens. the fact its IR makes nodifference.

On the first point indeed. In terms of photography rather than lighting systems, it's quite normal to talk about the "colour" of light changing with the emitter temperature.

On the second, IME it's not conventional to use lumens to describe a non-ionising radiation outside the visible (or at least the near infrared to near ultraviolet) spectrum.

Just becuase it's not conventional doesnt mean i'm wrong or right. It still emits the same amount and 'power' of light.

I had a set of hid lights fitted to my factory audi a6 projectors as the standard set up was terrible. I went for the 4500k bulbs as they are alleged to be as close to factory set up as possible whilst giving the best 'useable' color. They were amazing afterwards the difference was literally like night and day.....scuse the pun!

However, am impressed that the vrs lights are much better from stock than the a6!!! I am going to uprate the bulbs to some decent osram or philips ones.

Out of interest, does anyone know if the ltd edition vrs come with xenon headlamps as standard, because if they do, why dont people who want to uprate buy the xenon units and retro fit?

xenon units are expensive and are very rare as second hand as i have looked.

also its not knowing how much i need to fit xenon counterparts.

People don't upgrade Fabias without Xenons with the OEM units because they are expensive and to do the job properly you would also need the levelling kit and washers making it a really expensive job. People in general don't fit aftermarket kits because they are crap, annoy other road users and are illegal.

That's a big generalisation

If the unit is designed for a Xenon bulb then there will be no problem, you don't need a projector lense. A lot of new Civics come with normal reflectors/Xenons and these work fine. Conversely A mk2 Punto is fitted with projectors and these are crap with Xenons fitted.
