wax suggestions

Featured Replies

Hopefully my PC will arrive over the weekend so I'm just trying to sort out everything I need.

I've decided I'm going to try some meguiars #83 and #80, but I've not got a clue which wax I should be putting on, can anyone suggest a reasonably priced one that will last a while...

Jeffs Werkstat Acrilic for metalics, or Carnuba for more flat colours :)

You finally gave in eh? :P I'd suggest some Collinite 476 or 915 Rob :)

With some Victoria Concourse over the top.

Collinite 476 or 915 are durable. At the moment I am using Victoria Collectors Wax.

All of these are around £20.

GMTA :)

Well that was ever so slightly spooky! GMTA indeed :D

There you have it Rob, a definite answer; one that has been arrived at independantly, by two different people :)

Collinite are great waxes but if you want something that will give more shine than protection then id say either Petes 53 or to throw something different in there Jetseal 109 is still a winner. They are both made by Chemical guys if you didn't know

If you fancy trying something a bit different then this stuff is pretty good

Harley Wax

Chemical Guy's 50/50 wax.

Loverly warm finish comparable to much more expensive wax's.

Seemingly thats just a re-branded P21-S

 I thought there would only be one or two suggestions, I think I'll go with Collinite because I've seen some of Steve's work...

Cheers guys, expect pictures to follow soon once I pluck up the courage to try it all out...

Whats the difference between Collinite and Victoria Concourse Steve, aren't they both just waxes? And just out of interest, what products do you use at what stages??;)

On mine, I use 476 right after I've done sealant (Klasse All-in-One). So two coats of that, then a finished coat of Concourse. There isn't a wax more durable than 476 really, so my logic was that there would still be protection for the paint, once the Concourse has been broken down.

Steve

That reminds me, need to order some 476s.

915 is great but I want something a bit longer lasting.

Still looking at the Swissvax Shield PTFE wax but not sure if it's worth the 80 odd quid price tag........:rubchin:

stick with 915 mate.

there is little difference in the high end wax's unless you put all the prep work in

The 915 seems to last about 6 or so washes. If thats as long as it lasts then so be it. I'm pretty impressed with the end results with 915 both on Black Magic and Race Blue.

I've put two coats of 915 and I hope it lasts more than 6-12 washes!

476 is the way to go at this time of year. Mine lasted 6 months last winter with just 2 coats!

im giving Zym0l titanium a run this winter. The octy is wearing two coats so will have to see how it lasts

Both 476 and 915 will last four to six months if maintained correctly.

The 915 isn't lasting very well as the car is being washed frequently due to the mileage.

I will try the 476 and see for myself if it's any better.

I'd say that was wise - Collinite produce two different versions for a reason. The 476, as has been said, is the more durable.

That said, 915 isn't a bad compromise at all, given that it seems to produce a deeper and glossier shine, at least in my experiences with it.

Steve

Good thread this

The 915 makes the Black Magic paintwork look awesome but I would happily trade a little shine for more durability. I'm liking the idea of the 476 as a strong base with a layer of concourse on top.

COLLINITE

Nothing better for the price.

I was a fan of Swissol (Swissvax) until I used Collinite. Lasts and lasts, particularly if you layer it

Would it b possible to use the 476 as a 1st coat and then the 915 as a second coat?

Is there another product that should be used after these waxes have been applied?

Yep, that's absolutely fine - only issue would be putting a less durable underneath something like a 476. You may get some odd results, as the less durable wouldn't be able to break down and breathe, particularly with reference to the carnuba content.

I was going to use 915 as a final coat myself actually, but decided I'd try this Victoria Concourse out.
