Hiya folks

I`m Matt

I`ve been searching for a car to fill my needs.

I`m a self employed courier and i think i have settled on a fabia vrs I only collect blood samples from vets so dont need a load of space i do about 1000 miles a week so need something with good economy and a little poke to stop me getting to bored.

What are these cars like with high mileage As i do 50k a year mixed 50:50 urban and motorway i`m looking at getting hp over 5 years and returning it to the finance company after 2.5 yrs to clear the outstanding So if i get one on 40k already its gonna have 165k in 2.5 yrs see my dilema.

Any help/info

Hi Matt,

Welcome to Briskoda :wavey:

My 2003/03 fabia vRS has just hit 89500 miles this morning on the way to work and (touch wood) it's been solid as a rock since purchase in September 2004 with 17k on the clock.

As long as it is well maintained I'm sure you'll have no worries & a lot of fun. Tom on here is running a passat with the same PD130 engine as the Fabia vRS IIRC and he is well over 115k.

Welcome to Briskoda.

Our fabia that me and my girlfriend own is two years old with 30000 miles on the clock. The lady who owned it before was doing about 150 miles a day going to and from her town in the borders and Newcastle and never missed a beat.

Myself and my girlfriend are doing about 200 miles a week in ours which includes work mileage and visits down to the coast or her parents.

As long as the car is well maintained it will run and run, yeah it has it creaks and rattles but apart from that the car is cracking and quick which is one of the criteria that we had to buy a car something subtle but quick and diesel.

We were recommende to get a Fabia Vrs, a car I never considered thinking of as I was looking into getting a mark two focus zetec tdci but the test drive secured it for us.

Hope you find the right car.

David

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Been reading through some old posts the turbo probs seem a little worrying my dads passat turbo went but sourced one for £300.

Anyhow looks like im off to woodheads tomorrow they have a couple a 50 and a 55 so will still have manufacturers warranty although at 50k a year that will run out pretty quick so going to push for extra if i can.

However after looking for extended warranty the one that the AA provide looks good and cheap £139 with breakdown cover

Welcome. There's a couple of people on here with very low mileage '07 registered cars for sale, manufacturer's warranty transferrable, etc. but I don't know if that screws with your hp plans.

Best of luck anyway.

Hiya.

I know taxi drivers who've done the sort of mileage you're looking at in Octavias (same basic engine and box) with no issues.

One hint; run it on variable servicing with that sort of mileage.

Hi you all,

I'm a car freak, I love engines and working under the hood and under the car (getting down and dirty they say).

Infact, to some extent I also make a living out of it, and therefore I joined shipping as a Marine Engineer.

I love the basics and I think I have a natural tendency to understand machinery, which makes stuff like this really easy for me.

I love my Octavia, which is two years old to the day, and done 30,000kms and my problem is that in India, the guys rip you off, so it's better to do stuff yourself.

so I got a book from Haynes, which is really helpful, and now this forum from which I hear a lot and therefore I think I've got everything to extend my knowledge about the car to it's fullest.

Really looking forward to this...
