Cooked my clutch!

Featured Replies

Oh well, I suppose it has put up with a little bit of abuse although I wouldn't have thought my power would make it slip. Was doing 1/8 mile drag runs today...

Run 1: Got 2nd gear start all wrong, and lost badly.... :o

Run 2: Got 2nd gear start right, engaged 3rd, revved to the redline but no speed AT ALL.... Was like being in neutral.

So, gave up and parked back up and sure enough it was stinking! So, there was my day of drag racing over all too damn soon..... :( Going to have to investigate into much more powerful clutches now. Got my eyes across the other side of the Altantic. ;)

You still on the standard clutch with those 265 horses Jase?

No - It's running a 400 lb/ft clutch that I got from JBS a couple of years ago. All the more reason why I don't think it should have slipped that bad as I'm not even up to 400 lb/ft yet. Guess it's just a wear and tear thing and perhaps it just can't cope with the abuse of 2nd gear launches, and I need to find something that can....

A pic from someone else going, of my 2nd run. This must have been taken just when I launched as 150 metres later I'd already backed off due to the slipping. :(

tell me when you find a good clutch jase,by the middle of next year i have a funny feeling i am going to need the best i can find,as of now i have joined the power race:D

cooked a kevlar clutch?! Boy. talk about being hard-core...

What next - an uprated organic clutch? I hear that they have no artificial additives.....

Oh ya, there're good them 400ft/lb kevlar clutches. They last about 5 -10 good launches and then they are toast. Still at least they were cheap.:rolleyes::rolleyes::mad:

It "has" been good to now. Now looking at SPEC clutches. Apparently good for 500+ lb/ft if you go for the stage 3+.

i have a stage 3+ spec clutch sat in my dining room waiting for me to get my ar$e into gear and get the car over the northampton :)

and I've got a Spec stage 3+ clutch and one piece Ali flywheel siting in the engine bay of the Red Devil just to hold down all those torques. :P

I have to go through all the hassle of going to the States, and then trying to "avoid" import duties..... :( I assume Eddy's came from the States as well?

Did he sell you the flywheel as well.

Did he sell you the flywheel as well.

I'm going to get both. It's time I left the world of dual mass flywheels well behind. :)

Yes he did des.

Just mentioned the flywheel cos they have to be mated to each other i.e a re-faced flywheel.

Jas, you will not believe the feel over the Kevlar/DM set up.

I hope so. Anyone who drives my car says my clutch now has some serious bite, but I do hope the stage 3+ from SPEC will be up to the job.

Wooooh, just priced a stage 3 up with a steel flywheel

£511 :D Anyone fancy a trip to the USA ?

Got to be 3+ for me. There's a chap over on SCN who is now a UK stockist of SPEC gear, and it looks like £610 gets me the clutch I want - basically the same price as the JBS setup.

I heard the more bolts you use the better.

Racing a Scooby on that pic! love it! :D, shame u couldn't show him a thing or two

Puzzles me watching that video. There must be so much lag as the car doesn't even seem to pick up speed until near the end of the run. Even on the 2nd attempt on the way back it's the same story.

Is this an issue of lag or just not being able to put the power down due to clutch slippage/ traction?

I guess it's all about saving time so it may actually be quicker to have a bit of lag in 2nd than be fighting to get traction in 1st and hitting the limiter instantly.
