Top Gear

Think it's one of the best shows on the box

If people want to watch a factual car program, there are loads on satellite channels to cater for everbodies needs.

I think its worth the £100 odd that the licence fee costs.

The Merc was the obvious choice, something old and rugged was the next - but that Opel just was astonishing. Even with 43 horses it just kept going, and not just survived but kept all it's in it's original bits and still looked perfectly usable afterwards!

Was the Beetle driven all that way as well, or do you reckon they towed / flew / transported it?

Didn't watch this episode - but astonishing, in the races of plane versus car across France and the ilk, how the mysterious 'mishaps' that befall them all seem to virtually even out in the end :(:thumbdwn:

Bah. It's not a documentary and never claimed to be. It's entertainment, and damn good entertainment at that. I'm another who thinks it's worth the licence fee alone (there's bugger all else worth watching 'cept possibly Newsnight and Question Time when I get to shout at my telly).

IMHO of course ;)

Watch something else or stop moaning about the fact it's changed and telling everyone what it should be like

...........................I for one think it's one of the most entertaining programs thats on the box at the moment but I know that not everyone is going to think so. It's changed. So what. Watch something else.

Why would it have to change it's name? Does a Rock band have to change it's name if it decides to do something different? If they did I think Radiohead whould be on their 20th name change now and probably be called "Polly's new cracker".

I didnt need to type much now - you said it all for me.

Dont like? Dont watch.

I loved it, Ive watched top gear since being a boy, which was quite a while ago, and I love it!

As for Mr Clarkson - he is opinionated, non pc, and a damn refreshing change to the usual dullards on the box. In fact TV in general is so dull, I only watch Top Gear, and Long way down straight after. Another excellent hour of telly.

Agreed

I like Top Gear normally. I just thought this episode was a bit forgettable. Sorry, and all that :)

why do we have the rac/aa just not needed

Did you not see all the support vehicles behind Hammond as he was driving with the camera man using his torch as a headlight?

Seriously, there was no way they did that without the help of a lot of fully tooled up / parts laden vans following them.

Botswana's Vice President - "No car's ever managed to drive over the salt flats before."

Me - "That's because the other cars weren't followed by mechanic-driven parts-bins."

Still, you've gotta love Jezza for probably the worst choice of car ever.

"I'm in Africa, I'm probably going to have to drive over some seriously bad surfaces a long way from help in searing heat. You know I think I'll buy a Lancia Beta Coupe!"

:D:D:D

Like Top Gear, like the presenters, just a bit unmoved by that episode though.

Had that Deja Vu feeling.

As for everyone saying" if you don't like it don't watch it" how do you know whether you like/dislike it until you do watch it:confused:;)

Anyway..I love Lancias.Where is that new Fulvia they keep promising?:D

I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Santa if you are listening I would like an Oliver please!!!

Thank you!!!

Long way Down is top telly in my book. Sort of Ant and Dec, but with real men (I do love Ant and Dec though too, but in a ‘pet’ sort of way)

I missed the first 20 minutes or so. Why did they chop the doors off from the merc and lancia?

They were crossing the salt flats and needed to make the cars as light as possible to stop them sinking iirc :D

Chris

Ah, I can see being a problem with the merc but not the lancia. I did think it was funny when they had to cross the river and the opel sunk. Poor Richard.

The poor fella was genuinely terrified... :(

I thought it was hilarious :)

I thought it was great entertainment - 3 blokes cocking about in cars!

In the Lancias case, it’s a well known mod for when the interior door handles fall off. I actually used the sunroof to get in the car in the summer.

I always wanted a Lancia Beta HPE.........mmmmmmmm

I always wanted a Lancia Beta HPE.........mmmmmmmm

A Volumex HPE in graphite metallic was a fantasy car for me when I was younger:thumbup:. But i loved my Coupe till it rusted apart faster than the local bodyshop could patch it up:(

Top Gear fan here. Good set of presenters and does the anti-PC thing very well....................and heavens is it ever needed ?

Oliver was the star of this episode. Keep 'em simple and they go forever.
