Porsche Boxster

Featured Replies

I know there are a couple of folk on here who used to own a Boxster. What are they like to own and run? Is the 'S' worth the extra money? Are they any good?

Would an MX5 be a better ownership experience?

So many questions.....:D

Looking for another toy?

Both will be fun, but the Mazda would be cheaper to run :)

Sorrry, I should have mentioned, it's not for me, (just yet anyway) a friend has a BMW Z4 and the ride is playing havoc with his back, so he's looking for alternatives.

He thinks that big engines are the way forward, but I said he could have just as much fun in an MX5. Then he pointed out that a Boxster is effectively mid engined as the engine sits forward of the rear axle. I just wondered if this made all the difference.

Both are fun, but the Boxster is a nicer place to be and (in S guise) has significantly more grunt, but then you'd expect that for the higher price tag. Somewhere middling the two might be an S2000?

S2000's no fun! Too much like hard work :thumbdwn:

I nearly bought an S2000 a couple of years back, but it wasn't to be.

The only other mid engined RWD small sports car I can think of is the MGTF:rofl:

EDIT oh, and the Mister 2

MX 5 will never throw you back in your seat but as far as I am concerned it is great fun.

I did want something simple though. No powered roof etc.Just a basic clip the roof off away you go Roadster.

Brother has a boxter s.Never taken me for a spin but it is certainly a nice car.

You don't get any frills with the MX.If he wants toys + power then boxter. If he just wants 2 seats and cheap go cart fun,mx is the answer

(or a volvo convertible if his back is really bad:D)

Oooh, S2000

The Porsche is a nice comfy ride for sure, the ride in the Z4 is about as hard as it gets!!!

Has he considered a VX220 or Elise? Or how about a nice Caterfield?

Chris

Still lust after an elise.Problem is I like the old shape and the reliability scared me off.

Presume the elises with the Toyota engine are great???

Or a Roadie? :D

Not fast but absolutely brilliant to drive...

I think he's going for't Porsche despite other suggestions. I'll try and get a go of it if he gets one.

Boxster S all the way.

I loved my one,but if he can stretch to a 987 S(Current Shape)then they are so much better than the 986 S.

The whole dynamics and quality of the interior are fantastic.

But defo get the S.

I'd have another one but buy very carefully,i'd recommend an Independant Specialist or a private sale, there are some great ones around at the moment at very good prices.

But yes they can be expensive.

Miine in total for 20 months ownership and 28K miles was £30K.

[whistles] £30K? That's a sh*tload of wedge. What was the depreciation like? I imagine you don't really lose too much, but I may be wrong....

£11.5K in depreciation

£5K deposit

19x £511 monthly payment = £9709

Plus servicing and general running costs.

But worth every penny,as i loved it.

Would do it all again..........
