Which screen wash to use?

Featured Replies

I paid £18.66 for 9 litre VW screen wash, that was with a 10% discount for bulk buy.

Was that at a dealer Simon?

I wonder if the Sonax stuff mentioned here is similar to VAG spec Screenwash | Product Honours 2007 | Products | Auto Express I'm sure I saw a similar looking bottle making similar claims about dilutability in the Skoda dealers. There was similar stuff in Lidl's as part of their specials for something like 69p not so long back in a choice of apple or lemon.

Used loads of different screen washes in the Fabia and fan jets were the most reliable part of the car ;) My only complaint about the VAG screenwash is that it can go off and start smelling if you don't use the washers regularly....

No probs with supermarket own-brand (read: Autocare) blue concentrated stuff in over 3 years and 50k. My wife has to have the VAG stuff as she can't stand the smell of anything else, but thankfully she drives a lot less than I do, so the ball-ache factor (more than the hugely-inflated price) is less glaring, but I can get through 1l of concentrate in a fortnight in the winter, so I can't be doing with the hassle of having to go to a dealership every time I run out...

I can understand the oil thing, but the requirement to use their own-spec screenwash is a bit beyond my credibility TBH... :thumbdwn:

Makro, 10L of concentrate for £4 (Car Plan)

Yep local VW dealer, guy thought I was mad for buying so much so cheekily asked for a discount and got 10%.

I do the same with VW I ring up ask how much the screen wash is, then ask how much for a box load (think its 10 in a box), they then think im mad and then i ask if they do discount for bulk ;) then it comes back cheaper than halfords screenwash and doesnt invalidate my warenty. I will no doubt be placing my 6 monthly order with them again shortly (in next few weeks) and should be able to confirm a discount again of between 10-20% ;)

Never heared so much p#sh about only using VW stuff its exactly the same as

decosol, autoglym ect they will all work just as well and in no way damage any thing in the bottle of the pump or lines.

Remember the dealer will say anything to get the buisiness, same was said not to long ago about servicing only a dealers agian utter nonsense

Plus a trawl of the forum will reveal fan jets blocking over time, most will be fine, some will not, plus the VW stuff is not badly proced, in my opinion better thanb halfords at removing bugs and offers more frost protection than most others in the uk.

surely life's just too short, please end this debate now

lets all agree to disagree.
