1.9D hard to start below 0 Celsius

Hy to all skoda owners

I own '99 Skoda Felicia 1.9D. So far so good. It's almost like Golf produced for eastern europe market :)

But I have a winter problem now. I've been searching the this forum for answer but couldn't find the right one. So if anyone out there had solution or suggestion for it please write. Here it is:

When cold, below 0 Celsius I'm draining my battery but the engine just won't start. I've checked the glow plugs. One bad, got it fixed. I even got switch to manualy turn on the plugs and kepp them a bit longer. When i start cranking engine starts to rotate, sometimes giving one-two sounds of hope (starting explosions) but then i start losing power. After couple of crankings battery loses all the power. I've got two year old battery 65 or 85 Ah (the stronger there is for cars i could not remember now) and it's voltage is OK. I've changed the fuel filter. I put some diesel additives for cold weather. Still the problem persists.

Then if I jump start it or push start it everything is OK. It works great. After just few minutes i can turn it off an then start it again by its own.

I repeat I've got this problem only on cold weather. After all I tried I'm ready to buy an extra battery and keep it in the trunk for added support when starting :)

Greetings

Hi and welcome, stoly

It is strange that you don't have problems when jump starting, only with the car's own battery. Which makes me think that your battery (batteries) has lost it's strength after all. Or maybe a faulty earth connection?

I would think that a 65 Ah battery should be enough, but there are diesel owners around who know this better than me.

is your alternator charging properly??

Hello and welcome, hope your problem is fixed soon. You've come to the right place.

Welcome :)

Hy again

Sorry for posting in this category. I wasn't aware.

For the above question the answer is yes, the alternator is charging.

Maybe I'll get new battery and try.

By the way how long is the average battery life?

Battery life is all about "living conditions" - I've known batteries to last for ten years, but a total drain kan sometimes kill even a new battery's capacity to keep charged.

welcome too briskoda:thumbup:
