MPG - what you getting

Featured Replies

I have a new 1.9D Fabia 3

so far as far as i can see from the dials im only getting around 33 MPG and thats taking it easy.

all town driving to be far

but i would have expected more

what are you all getting and in what engine and model

1.4 TDI 3 - 48.5 mpg average over the last 3500 miles, mostly motorway at 70 mph with climate on all the time. MPG has not been as good as I expected considering I have just come from a 185 bhp Volvo D5 that did 43 mpg over the same commute but wit more "spirited" driving.

From my experience of other PD engines they seem to take a big kick up in mpg after the first service so I am hoping the Fabia will be the same. How it ever justifies the low road tax is beyond me.

i have climatronic , can i turn it off

Yes just push the Econ button and it will not bring in the air con - going to experiment on my drive to see what difference it makes.

I have a Fabia 1.9 TDI Level 3,

The last tank, I got 510 miles out of it. The maxi-dot computer said 57.1 mpg for the 510 miles. I calculated the mpg by filling the tank twice and I got 54.0, so the computer is not far off.

I've done 1900 miles so far, mostly motorway, have climate control on when needed to clear the screen etc.

how do yoy do that

all town driving to be fair

Take it on the motorway and keep it at a constant 65-70mph

You'll see it hit the high 50's then.

My 1.9TDI Golf gets around 35mpg at most when around town

1.4 TD - Level 2. On my drive to work which is a 40 mile trip generally driven between 50 and 60mph get an average of 50mpg readout. Did 180 m/way miles (about 70mph) and was getting upto 53mpg until it started snowing when it dropped to around 50!

About 6000 miles it seemed to improve, and hit 9000 today.

The engine might need to be "run in". what mileage car is it?

My Dad used to get about 33mpg on an Accord 2l VTEC with the climate on all the time. Bad car though as you need midget hands to do a headlight bulb change on one side, dated interior (the indicator stalks looked like 80's Rover stuff).

I get about 42mpg combined cycle from my Felicia 1.6 or about 37 ish if driving around town. I could prob get 400 miles on a full tank.

My sisters Micra gets about 42+mpg too but I think this one is a little more economical when its driven on short to medium runs. I put in £15 so it had half a tank and it's done 300 miles but on a long distance run with a full tank it has a range of approx 420 miles.

Just passed 1000 mile mark in my 80hp 1.4tdi and I ve been getting 48-53 mpg. Most of my driving is on 30-40mph roads. Mind I have put some Millers fuel additive in.

Since I've owned my Octavia 1.9 TDi, It has averaged 50MPG. The trip tells me more, but fuel in vs miles driven = 50. All mixed driving (mostly carefully!!)

Best tank ever near 60 MPG, worst 42.

Modified 04 Fabia vRS, 180ish bhp, no granny driving. The computer has been showing 50.9 mpg and I checked actual on 600 mile trip round the UK. On a real world mixture of town driving, fast motorway blasts, traffic jams, I calculated 52 mpg using the actual amount of diesel used and the mileage on the odo.

You should get better than that, but town driving is the worst possible for consumption. I have a new Roomster 2 with the same engine; 250 miles of town work, with the 'Econ' button on the climatronic always on is giving me 39.1 on the display. Use the Econ setting, press lightly on the right foot, and 40mpg should be a target in a Furby IMHO.

vrs - on a 12 mile journey (about 60% at 50mph) and theres a bloody big hill in the middle of it, i can usually get 64 no problems without feathering it, i have got a 68.9 feathering it. i was quite impresssed with the midnight run at 24.9 though :)

Fabia 3 1.6 Tiptronic here.

I've had it 3 weeks and have so far notched up 150 miles, mainly in-town driving but not during traffic peaks. So far, the best I've got it to is 29.8MPG on the maxidot display. My old 1.4 8v manual saloon was great on petrol, and I was expecting a drop following my shift to a bigger, and automatic engine. I'm hoping to get over 30MPG on a motorway!

We've got a 1.2 70bhp petrol with level 2 spec. Had it for three months and done a number of brim to brim checks and it is averaging out at 41 mpg. Quite happy with that because we do a fair bit of driving in town. On an extended run, keeping an eye on economy, we can see 52 mpg on the trip computer.

1.4 petrol fabia 3. First tank returned 230 miles, refill was 35 liters so if my maths is right thats 24.6mpg. I dont bother turning clima off.

Wifes Octavia 1.8T returns around 19mpg.

By way of explanation I live in Milton keynes which for those that dont know is a lattice work of mostly dual carrageway roads that intersect every 1-2 miles with a roundabout. That means driving is hard acceleration up to 60mph then cruise for a minute then brake for roundabout then repeat. Journeys in town are never more than 15 minutes. Arguably much worse than traditional city driving (also hammers the tyres with all the right turns)

my roo 1.9tdi is getting a steady 41 ish mpg with mainly town driving, and i dont drive like a granny either ;)

but then its done 4000 miles now in 3 months (oh the management will love me when i hand it back!)

I get to drive quite a few of the new Fabias at work as I am employed by a car rental chain.

I keep an eye on the MPG as I go along and have had readings in the early-mid 60s.

Dave

Fabia 3 1.4tdi 80bhp version - just over 7,000 miles 51.12 mpg, around 70% motorway driving.

I have a 1.9 Diesel Furby Elegance Estate and on average get 10 miles to the Lt that's about 45 to the gallon mainly town driving but you have to drive fairly carefully to get that. My last car was a Daewoo Matiz 800cc which I got 10 miles to the Lt on similar town running but now I have got used to the estate I would not want to go back to a small car especially on long runs with the joys of the cruse controll

My Fabia3 1.4tdi, after 6000 miles, is averaging 47mpg. I do 90% commuting in town with the occasional blast up and down the motorway.

It's my first new car and first diesel, so i've nothng to compare it to. Is it good or bad?
