New Tyres: Front or Rear- opinon

Featured Replies

New tyres on the front every time. The Michelin study is rubbish because most people drive decent cars.

Oh well gave you guys the answers you were looking for and as we are all human we have different ideas.......:( Me, i will put them to the rear as ive been in the trade too many years to mention and go with the manufactures advice;) you pays your money and its your choice, we stick them where ever you want them, but most go with the ADVICE we offer.

never have any problem with tyre fitters putting them on that way either, it's my car, either they put my tyres where I want them or I go somewhere else.

Same here. I once ****ed of a fitter a great deal: I went in, and said:

"2 Goodyear NCT2 on the front please"

and went off for a walk for 20 minutes. I came back to find some no-name tat "Made by Goodyear, mate" on my Golf. I made them put the old ****ty tyres back and went elsewhere. I'd even phoned to check they had the NCT2s, and they lied.

...and that's fine. The advice may make sense for some, but doesn't suit me.

when my fronts wear out, I put new ones on the front... I've never had a problem... when it becomes oversteery, i replace the rears with new ones (happened on the vRS at about 50k) then you've got another 50k of perfectly fine motoring. (note: you don't have to wait until they're right down to 1.6 mill, I changed the rears for new ones on the skoda when they still had about 2.5 mill on them, they just wern't working well anymore (conti's) )

I've just changed the fronts on the fiat, the rear bridgstones are still close to seeming new, so I really cant see me going **** end through a hedge anytime soon.... especially as I have lovely new (cheap) federals on the front ;)

No-body has mentioned braking either... its all very well having good tyres on the back so your back end doesn't slide out while your doing ***mph round a corner... but what about when it comes to stopping at that speed... the damn tyres aren't going to be much good to you if all your tread is at the back of the car!! lol

rotate then replace them all at once:thumbup:
