Featured Replies

I have just changed to a Fabia 07 from an 05 Renault Clio.

and i notice a bigggggggg difference in the brightness of the standard headlights.

any any suggestions on how to improve this, or what kind of bulbs would make in similar to the clio.

I dont want somehting ultra bright etc. i just want good light.

any chance of some help here

IIRC the fabia is H7/H1 bulbs but your manaul will reveal all :)

If you have ellipsoidal lens: H7

If you have standard free form headlamp: H4

You can try Osram Night Breaker, I'M satisfied...

Philips X-Treme

Awesome!!

I also have the philips extreme bulbs... had the Philips Blue vision... which were also great and you got the blue vision side-lights which are so much brighter than standard. Changed to the x-treme ones after the idiot in the 4x4 hit me and had to get some new bulbs.

But they're very bright and only paid £20!!!

The headlights on my new Fabia were terrible so just fitted some Philips X-treme bulbs.

My last car was a Volvo S60 with Xenons and the lights are almost as good as they were.

Must admit I didn't believe the hype until I fitted a set, massive increase in the distance of the dipped beam, in fact they are so much more powerful I have had to drop the beam down to setting 1 to avoid blinding oncoming drivers.

Black can you confirm that the Fabia 2 needs the H7 type? The manual is not that clear. It describes what to do quite well but does not tell you if H4 or H7 fits spec 1, 2 or 3.

Thanks.

Mine is the Fabia 3 and the headlights have bi-Halogen written around the lens.

The casing in the engine compartment has a hella sticker on it and somewhere in the code it said H7 so I ordered the H7 bulbs.

I also had a dry run taking the old bulbs out before ordering. The connector is a little unusual, not the usual spring clip design. You have to twist it as stated in the manual to get the assembly out. When you get it out it is a bit of a struggle to liberate the bulb from the connector but I found that it does work out eventually.

Got the free blue side light bulbs but they look a nightmare to get out so I will not be bothering.

I'm a little surprised you guys aren't very happy with the standard headlight setup on the new Fabia. They will be the same as those on my Roomster and perhaps the range could be a little better but I find the light crisp and the spread good. Much better than my MY2000 pre-facelift Octavia.

My last car did have Xenons so perhaps I am expecting a lot but at the same time as buying the Fabia we got a new Passat Estate with standard headlamps and they are also far better than those on the Fabia.

The problem is exactly what you say, the range of the light.

Switching to the new bulbs has made a significant improvement to the range.

I'm very satisfied on Osram Night Breaker bulbs...

Worth to try!

If you want a really really good light have a look on ebay for HID kits.

These can now be bought for just under £50 and you should never need to replace the bulbs in the lifetime of the car.

Had these on my 2001 Astra and they were awesome.. will be buying some for the Skoda when i decide which one to have! lol...

or these lights?

According to a Finnish car mag's measurements, the standard lights (the first pic) have great low beams but sucky highs and the lens lights (2nd pic) have better high beams, but sucky lows. If you have sucky high beams, that can be easily fixed with additional high beams, such as the Hella FF 200, which, according to a car mag comparo is a very good light, providing 3 lux of light to over 200 m.

My Fabia 1 appears to have the standard fit lights as shown in the first pic and the high-beam seems most acceptable. Dad's Octavia has the lens lights (pic 2) - what exactly is the difference? Same bulbs with the addition of a lens, or a bit more complicated?

as far as i understand it (i could be very wrong, going from my knowledge of torches/flashlights here) the 'lens' is an aspheric lens designed to make the light go further due to some optical jiggery pokery. in some torches, it even makes the beam pattern a square!

just a warning about those HID kits, most of the ones you buy could be ilegal in the UK, due to glare and dazzle and things like that. the only safe one to go for would be the genuine skoda ones (think they call them xenon bulbs/lights)

Not adequate for Xenon too, in terms of ideal lighting. Especially the headlight with lens is designed for halogen lamp.

Are you sure it is not the other way round? My Roomster has the lens lights in the 2nd pic and I find the low beams great. The high beams are adequate but not brilliant.

Combined with the high driving position meaning you don't get dazzled so much by oncoming cars I find the Roomster very relaxing to drive at night.

Can anyone else confirm if the Fabia 2 takes H7 bulbs, or does it depend on which type of headlight you have. Also, i am not bothered about the sidelights after reading the horror stories about trying to change the bulbs. Can someone please confirm if changing the main headlight bulbs is pretty straight forward. Are there any videos on youtube yet

If you have projector type (lens) headlights there are H7, otherwise H4...

To change the HL bulb, first take off the big rubber cap behing the HL. Then you can see the clips of the bulb holder. Open the clips, remove the bulb and pull the connector from the bulb.

Silly question but the high adjuster control is set for maxium height, not lowered for heavy load?

Normaly it should be on "-" level. Which is the max height position.

When you load your car headlights must be lowered (1, 2 or 3) depending on your load. 3 is the lowest position.

I'm running osram nightbreakers in my polo as uprated bulbs and finding them absolutly brilliant. Yet another vote for night breakers.
