got a new mate from work who does body work, and he was saying to me that i should smooth off my rear tail gate and move my numberplate to the bumper (its an old chop i know) but i had a play smoohing the boot lid. what do you guys think?

for £100 if your friend does that should be quite good, bootlids do look hard to get right though as they never seem to look 100% right, any ive seen anyway as its hard to match the cars shape

no no hes gonna do a proper job, saw he did it to his mates fiesta it looked pretty smart. but ill see what my funds are like at xmas:)

fair point stu, i think were going to work on making a place for it to go in the bumper anyway, so it wouldnt look clumbsy

It's a bit chavvy, spend ur money on sorting ur front bumper and wheels first

Figure out the practicalities of doing it, then forget it. IMO if it's not something you're really into doing, don't do it.

Questions?

How are you going to open the boot after delock/de-boot lift handle-ing it?

Have you thought about what to do about numberplate lights?

Do you know that there's enough space behind the skin of the bumper to allow the numberplate to be recessed and lit properly?

If done right, it could be good. There's far too much to think about and plan and then implement for it to be done for £100 though.

If you found the bumper off a 9n polo and plastic welded that into a section cut out of the fabia bumper it might work.

Why not fill the window with metal plate?

You could do ALL the windows!

Now THAT would be really kewl!

I'm not sure on it.

I'm not keen on totally smoothing the tailgate, even down to debadging it.

With my last car people were going smooth the tailgate, take the badges off, but why I like to give the car some identy.

I hate this mod, on any car, moving the plate to another part of the car is utter **** (ryhmes with bank).

Just because you can make something look different doesn't mean you should.

Loads of people smooth off their door handles, boot lids, etc just making it a bit more minimalist. but hey ho! i dont think its Cha-v i mean i'm not sure on the idea myself but i dont think it should be descrived as chavvy tbh!

plus i dont speak, dress, or act like one!!
