Is the qouted figures correct?

Recently I drove from Norwich to heathrow and back and only managed 32.9, I thought on a run it was ment to be 40+ or do you have to be driving like a grandad to get that?

Some of it was stop start but alot of it was at 70+ I expected atleast 38ish

Cheers

Pete.

I know it's not an identical unit but, for what it's worth, my 2.0Fsi 4x4 gives me about 42 on the m'way and between 35-38 on an urban run.

If I'm not careful with my right foot :D it can drop off to the high 20's.

ive heard vrs owners get better mpg at around 80. i myself get better mpg around 50 (which most of the roads around here have had their limit dropped to).

You're having a laugh, expecting an average of 40mpg + from a performance petrol hatch/saloon is simply laughable, 32.9mpg is imo very acceptable and I would be more than happy with it. Curently I'm averaging in the mid 20's mpg but then again I do do a lot of shorter journeys and the longer ones do tend to be 'spirited'!.

It does depend a lot on your driving style though. Remember last year on the CZ trip Mr Fish, I was able to get better MPG than you when I drove your car.

what were you averaging on the way down to WSM Mr Fish?

Sounds pretty typical, 32.9 on a run, from previous comments by vRS TFSI owners.

If you want to get into the 40's you will either have to drive like an economy run specialist, or come and join those of us with a vRS TDI. :D

But doesnt that go back to another thread about being able to handle power ;):P

I managed 40.3mpg on a 90mile motorway run ONCE, when following SWMBO in a Kia Picanto (60-70mph ).

I keep my average at 31-32 by behaving on my motorway commute (33-35mpg), and having fun at the weekend (24-26mpg). If only there were more days in a weekend...

I'm saving for a visit to JBS for a tune to improve (ahem) economy... I'll see if I can get down in to the teens at weekends after that :).

:iagree:

You may get higher thirties if you drive around 50 - 55 mph on the motorway but certainly between 70 -80 mph 32.9mpg is very respectable.

I don't really understand why people bother buying performance hatches and then worry about how many miles per gallon they get.

Could be worse, I put a caravan on mine occasionally! I ve had 14 to 19mpg depending how late I am for the ferry.

In normal use, you can get high 30s if you stick to the speed limits but it is suppose to be a performance ish car, so maybe you should buy a diesel next time.

And less than 20 if you tow a shed.

the best ive got fro my vrs tfsi is 42 and that was cruising for about an hour and a half at 60 -70 with no more peddel travel then about half an inch. about once a month ill try this, the rest im just having fun witch i reckon is the way to be.

Hmmm not exactly, most were saying low 30's was the norm and in the mid 20's for spoirityed efforts.

1 or 2 were, just as 1 or 2 said mid - high 30's...

The big shock for me in that thread was the mpg's being reported by TDI owners !

40mpg+ only at 60ish mph.

33-37mpg at the speeds you mention (70+ mph) and still reading the road well so no braking really.

Not paying attention 28-33mpg going at 70mph+

What is so shocking?

For those of you who commented on me buying a "performance" car etc and "worrying" about MPG...

I wasnt complaining, I was just questioning what the book states and was wondering if my MPG was about right or if I had a problem with the car.

Trust me im more then happy with 30+ as I was getting around 15mpg in my previous car (300zx TT)

What is so shocking?

TDI's returning 42mpg

mine does that, and it's a 1.9 :(

TDI's returning 42mpg

... yeah but do you reckon that's :D or ?

Sounds about right tbh. Going to Prague, driving steadily through France, Belgium and Holland got around 33 mpg average. That dropped dramatically upon reaching Germany! :D

... yeah but do you reckon that's :D or ?

:D I'd imagine

Short shifting will do nothing for economy, you need to let it

rev a bit. I have seen 400 to a tank, but then again the norm

is less than 300 :)
