Did I get 3 points today?

Featured Replies

Came around a bend on the dual carriageway this morning, and saw a van parked up. Braked real quick, but had had the cruise set to 77-78. Hoping I’ll be all right…….. Speedo’s over read right?

I did see the pesky civil servants had moving, adjust something on the camera as I went past which got me worried that after they snapped me he was resetting something??? Does anyone know how they are operated???

Doh! Oh well, 3pts are the latest must have fashion accessory so I told.

Could have been an ANPR unit and 78 would equate to about 73 or thereabouts. Did it have a massive speed camera symbols on it?

He might have been packing up for the day, it happened to me about 6 months ago and I was obviously dead lucky as I was knocking on a pace.

Wait 14 days and all will be revealed (hopefully not!!)

I didn't see any massive camera signs that I recall, although he could have has some on the side. He was parked up in a lay-by, with the camera out of the back window. I just assumed it was a generic government licensed highwayman. I was on a empty dual carriageway at around 9.30 am.

The git had moved location and tried to get me on the way home too, 4 hrs later. Fortunately, the motorists coming the other way had spotted him on a bridge and everybody had suitable warning.......

Like I say, the only way to be sure is to wait and see, if a NIP doesn't appear within 14 days you SHOULD be ok.

It might also be an idea to check your local 'safety camera' partnership website, they usually post times/dates/locations of speed checks so you should be able to tie it in to where you may have been caught.

Good luck :)

I reckon you're safe. 77-8 on the speedo is probably 72ish real, and there's a good margin on the detectors.

That's what I was hoping people were gonna say. I'm quite happy to delude myself for the next 2 weeks until the bad new does or doesn't arrive. :)

I usually set my cruise control speed according to the speed displayed on my Talex. When the Talex is showing 70 the speedo reads 75 so I think you should be OK

Speedos typically overread by anything up to 10% but worth bearing in mind that some are reasonably accurate so don't rely on it overreading unless you've checked it!

Saying that, even with a 100% accurate speedo, you're still under ACPO guidelines so should be withing tolerances :D

Starting to feel better now. I just feel it's too close to comfort.

Note to self. Set Cruise to 74-75 for piece of mind.

Mine over-reads by 8-10% according to GPS.

my speedo is only 2% out, but acpo guidelines say its 79 and upwards that the gun will click ;)

I'll back the others up on this, you should be fine ;)

Again, you should be fine :)

Depends on the manufacturer how much it over-reads etc

My tomtom says i'm doing 27 when the cars speedo says 30

But I'm always going by what my speedo says and not the TomTom (as i never have the tomtom on all the time anyway)

*By my speedo i mean the speedo of the vehicle i am driving not just my trusty Felly

I have escaped penalty myself.

I was on a country lane in a Vauxhall Combo the A675 (one lane each way affair) and overtook a minicoach. The road had been changed from a national speed (60) to a 50 and I overtook a minicoach, rounded the bend and saw a radar gun being aimed at my van and my speedo was reading something like 60-65mph.

But i carried on rather than brake to avoid a minicoach ramming my van into the fields

Another time I decided to give the Combo a good run to see what sped i could get. I got it to 99mph and thought this is fast enough in this vehicle. i pulled in and was slowing down to get overtaken by a Police Range Rover.

So I wouldn't worry unless you get a summons to pay a fine and send your licence. Or however the system works

The first thing will be a NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution) in the post, rather have a nip from a Rottweiler to be honest

This has to arrive within 14 days of the offense.

Thanks all for the moral booster....... I'll let you know how I get on. I like my nice clean license, my insurance is costly enough as it is!

On a different note, it never ceases to amaze me how good the people on here are. I'm quite sure that I've posted several dumb *** questions or in this case moaned about something. Time and time again the people on her take the time to reply to both mine and other's thread to either make someone feel better, or answer a question that they've probably answered a dozen times before.

Thank You Members Of Briskoda!

The police have to be able to prove that they attempted to deliver the NIP (ie put it in the post) within 14 days of the offence taking place iirc, rather than it having 14 days to arrive....

Got lasered at the weekend by a motor cycle cop, as I was going into Aberystwyth. He hid his bike out of site and placed his camera thingy and tripod alongside a dirty old van on the pavement just around a bend. I couldn’t even see the guy until I was level with him, as he was hiding as well. Expect my 3 points letter to arrive this week sometime. Bugger!
