Many thanks for the reply. may have to spend some money.

I don't think you'll regret it. The mapping is really good, the TMC works very well too.

It's pretty much plug and play although if you do want it coded give me a shout.

You'll find it has two antenna connections for 'Diversity' but it works fine on the one.

can the red colour be reprogrammed to Green?

Unlikely, you would need to be very talented with a soldering iron to achieve the Skoda colouring. There is also presumably a VW splash screen on startup.

Worth searching for a Skoda equivilant unit perhaps?

I would say so but The Skoda variants are as rare as hens teeth at the moment.

I would like to know where all these SAT Navs are coming from?! There seem to be lots in Eastern Europe.

My worry is that if I buy one, it might be stolen, and it might get stolen....

Currently I use TomTom on my phone.

Paranoid???

Write offs perhaps?

The MFD2 I bought from ebay had the VW code card with it so unlikely to be stolen.

It's a chance you take with most stuff on ebay

I would be scared having that in my motor, would love one tho! Definitely wait for skoda one to turn up buy how log would you have to wait (stu?)

The Eastern European sat navs are assumed to be reconditioned units from the Blaupunkt factory...whether they come out the front or back door is another question!

Mine come off eBay, was in perfect condition....until further inspection and you can tell one of the buttons has been replaced and is a slightly different shade from the other buttons (you have to look very close).

I'm told that the factory is currently on a run of making the SEAT version. I am assured that once Skoda ones go back into production they will become available. I have a man on the case who will let me know as soon as they are.

I got a mail from superskoda today, they are now selling the VW version for E1399 (sorry, no euro key)

That works out at around £1053. Is this a competitive price?

I love this :rofl::rofl:

Actually the RNS 510 is coming from ex-Siemens VDO (now Continental), not Blaupunkt.

They are produced in Czech republic.

Very good point! The satnav in my Audi got stolen last year. A very professional guy stole it right outside my house, leaving absolutely no marks. In Norway, there are east european bands robbing satnav's and airbags and ships them out of the country the next day or so. Navigasjonsutstyr for 800.000 stjålet (in Norwegian ;)). Luckily my ensurance company paid for the replacement unit, and repairs which was very expensive (Audi is making a lot of money on these robbers). Buying the unit as a spare part is twice the cost as having it installed when the car is new.

So, be sceptical when seeing these on ebay. At least I would.
