Bit like the cool wall...classic or not?

Featured Replies

Scoobynet lot keep referring to the RS below as a 'classic'.I keep looking at it thinking.... I'd prefer an old porsche in my garage.

Mind you I'm iffy about the Lotus Carlton and yet I would happily have an old 80's M3 or its rival Merc Cos 190 to polish and drool over.Cor,I'm confusing myself on what could be seen as a classic:rofl:

Anyway, discuss ...price n'all (this might go over the youngsters heads;))

Ford : moonstone blue RS500

I would say thats a classic, I think the whole genre of classic car isnt just dependant on age but also numbers made, the status it held, How advanced it was for its age and lots of other factors besides.

Im biased but even from the VW stable there are newish ones.

Mk1 Golf,Mk2 Rallye,Mk2 G60, Corrado, all relativley modern day classics

You could go further back and pick out the Beetle, Karman ghia, Split screen, All classed as classics but not really my bag.

Hmmmm - I'm definately in two minds about this one.

I seem to remember thinking they were SubZero at the time, but now I can't helping thinking it was a bit ch@v, even though ch@v hadn't been invented back then!

Guess it comes down to how you define a classic, but I suspect it's based on desirability, availability and how many unmolested examples there are. I quite like the RS500 although I reckon that driving some classics could be a huge disappointment....

Chris

I'd call it a classic... it was supercar performance for salooncar price at the time (and the 500 is a limited edition run) and I don't think thats really been repeated..... lotus Carlton maybe...

I certainly wouldn't pay £45,000 for it though!

deffo classic for that RS500 , don't think its worth the price mind , even with the reg plate

Don't think I would class it as a supercar tbh, it was a quick hot hatch in its day (0-60 6.1s 154 top end) standard car produced 224bhp and will no doubt have lost quite a few of those in the last 20 years:rolleyes: 45k :rofl::rofl: As for a classic, sorry, only as a negative classic, the std cosworth led the way as the twoccers car of choice and stupid insurance premiums, I just don't see it, sorry :o

The classic price guide has this model at £14K max,so the other £31K is for the number plate !?

deffo classic for that RS500 , don't think its worth the price mind , even with the reg plate

Would be interesting to see what he thinks the price is without the plate included

The rear spoiler is a no no for me, looks like something from Halfrauds.

I know it's the real McCoy but even so  I wouldn't pay that sort of money for it. Granted the number plate is worth a few bob but 45 grand? bloody hell!

I would rather have a mint condition Lotus Carlton as it's a little more discreet. Failing that, the 190E Evo II will do nicely. With 502 being built it's got to qualify as a classic. The silver ones are ultra rare as there are only 2 of those and Merc have kept hold of them.

An early

I reckon the Mk1 Octy vRS combi is a classic. :D

Nice but no ta... Too much lag, too crap rear suspension to deploy the power properly (too much camber change).

I'd rather have a sorted cinquicento (sp) :) i.e. something you can have fun in at less than "go to jail" speeds.

J.

I am on both sides!

I do think the Sierra Cosworth 3 door s a classic of sorts, but also agree that it's image was unfortunately tainted by the demographic ho were drawn towards it

Now give me an HSR Chevette or Lotus Sunbeam and then we're talking!

(I'd also take an RS1800 Escort at a push ;))

Is it a classic? - no yet.

Is it iconic - yes.

Maybe in 20 years time it could be considered a classic, but for now its just an 80's boy racer icon.

The Cossie's a definite present or future classic.

I reckon the Mk1 Octy vRS combi is a classic. :D

Not so much now, but in a few years then maybe..................................
