Had my wife's car serviced yesterday before the warranty runs out.

Car was bought in December 2006 from a Skoda dealership in Basingstoke, just before it closed.

Car still had 9 months manufacturers warranty, which they extended to 12 months (ie Dec 2007)

While servicing the car, they picked up a coolant leak.

I asked if this would be covered and they said it would be under the manufacturers warranty but that our warranty had run out in September. :confused:

I questioned it to be told that he said our last 3 months of warranty wouldn't be manufacturers warranty....????

He's going to phone Skoda UK to see if they will authorise the work and let me know.

Anyone come across anything similar?

To make matters worse, the doors were re-sealed and now one of the rear door's is broken...

It looks like you are now covered by a "Skoda Approved Warranty", if the car was less than 6 years old and had done less than 60k miles when you purchased it.

I guess they need authorisation from the warranty company - and confirmation that coolant leaks are indeed covered under the terms of this warranty. Hopefully they will be, and I think you should make a fuss if not!

Very strange - Car sold with 12 months warranty, 9 months of which cover the repair , 3 months don't

As for kicking up a fuss if they don't sort it, that you can guarantee

I would guess from what you say that the car had 9 months of the Skoda warranty remaining and as a gesture of goodwill the dealership extended it to 12 for you.

But of what worth is a warranty :confused:

5 HT Leads.spark plugs. filters.wiper blades.lights and bulbs, belts.shock absorbers.wiring looms. glow plugs

6 Exhaust manifold.exhaust system , brackets, mountings and hoses. water ingress. cables

7 Worn or leaking seals and cylinders

8 Battery

9 LPG Conversions

Those components covered are covered against mechanical or electrical failure due to sudden and unexpected circumstances. The replacement of oil filters lubricants antifreeze and fluids and regassing of air condition is included provided the replacement is necessiatated by the failure of a warranted component

External oil leaks are specifically exluded

NOTE the warranty does not cover failure due to wear and tear

You will need to pay the maximum Payment for diagnostics of £65 inclusive of VAT

Additional items covered

ICE UP TO 25% of OEM equipment

AIR CON up to 40% of your claim

If so then i agree with you, most are not worth the paper they are printed on!

Got a call today, Skoda will do the repair under warranty.

And they're going to fix the door while they're at it.

They wanted £240 + VAT - Not a bad result with very little whinging needed

I bought the car at exactly three years old, from a SKODA DEALER if I bought on that particular day I got a free lifetime warranty (I do not know what happened to the SKODA one year warranty for approved used car?)

Apart from the above where NOTHING is covered, it also states the car has to be serviced every 6k for the warranty to apply

Now I got this useless bit of paper free, but it is available to buy at £100 per year to some mug willing to be duped like I

I am now in the situation that this 3.5 yearold 37k car needs a new wheel bearing at $EITY Only knows how much, but they can not do the repair yet as they do not know which one is failing, (a slight constant drone noise) I need to wait until it gets worse or FAILS

I really wish someone would produce a retro car, similar to the Ford 100e, where a working man can fix it himself with a weekend in the shed

These days unless you have £20k of diagnostic gear, and £200 a throw electronic sensors spare, you have to dig into your pockets deep ;-(

At Current motoring costs, then the private hire stretched Humvee Limo is looking a cheaper bet for my commute :-)
