Bugger It

Featured Replies

Rear ended tonight. Stopped a red light on an island....

BANG.

Was expecting serious damage but looks fairly straight.

Got out, agreed with other driver to pull around the corner.....

He p!ssed off.

But... I have his registration plate, it checks out, and the car is insured.

Have reported to the coppers, will go in person tomorrow. Damage seems to be only the rear bumper, and 2 sore necks- me and SWMBO.

Hope you are both ok. Glad you had the presence of mind to get the barsteward's plate, hope they throw the book at him.

Sorry to hear that, have a really good look as the bumpers can spring back to more or less its original shape. You'll probably find more damage in the boot.

Hope the police throw the book at him for leaving the scene of an accident, also see a doctor to get your necks checked out.

I'm unfortunately well practised at the accident lark: Every single car I have owned (except one) has had a 'other driver at fault' accident. I've had 3 cars rear ended now.

Sorry to hear that, but the police will track him down for leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging insurance details. As others have said, well worth getting checked out at A&E and also have a nose around in the boot to see if the boot floor is rippled.

No visible damage in the boot, but it's dark!. The bumper has sprung back to shape but you can see the outline of the bar has pushes trough in places. Given the impact, I'd sat the Fabia is impressively strong.

Have you made any notes on what the guy looked like? If so, take them with you to the police station. If not, say and I'll tell you what to record while your memory is fresh.

Been said before but i'll repeat it anyway;

Get yourselves checked out at A&E ASAP.

We had the same sort of thing last week :thumbdwn:

Make sure the exhaust hasn't been punted in the impact.

Sorry to be reading this :(

I have had it before with no real damage :)

Sorry to hear your misfortune. Hope your both ok. Hope he gets whats coming to him.

Mate feel gutted for you :(

Least no one is seriously hurt and all that

Black chap, 55-60. Chubbyish, guess at 5"8 tall, with young girl (5-6, Grandaughter?) in fornt passenger seat- didn't appear to have seatbelt.

Have done so, thanks to everyone for advice.

I rmember, I think.

It looks OK. Looks like the bumper bar took the impact. I will check again tomorrow, and formally report to ins co. and police. I already have a police log number.

Makes my blood boil! This kind of thing seems to be happening more and more these days.:mad:

Glad to hear no-one was seriously hurt. The Police will catch up with this guy and hopefully something gets done about it.

Let us know how it pans out.

Bit late but you should have phoned the police immediately he ****ed off.

While it's an offence to leave the scene of an accident without giving your details, I'm not sure the police actually do anything aside from getting the details (presumably a police officer turning up on their doorstep is enough!). Had it been a hit and run with injuries it may well be a different story.

If you have his reg, your insurers should be able to "confirm" his address (not that they should volunteer the information) ;)

Chris

leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging details is an endorsable offence, with a garunteed court appearance........

I did, for all the good it will do.

Not in my experience ... :( I would guess if there was an injury there would be more enthusiasm to pursue it.....

I've had the run-around from the coppers today: on the phone they said 'report to any police station'. I work in the neighbouring force area (West Mercia), so went to one of their stations. No good, so drove 15 min to Bournville Lane (West Mids). They needed the paper part of my licence (can anyone tell me what the point is of an easy-to-carry photocard licence is when it's useless without the paper counterpart that is *bigger* than the old paper licence?), so when i got home, I got that, and phoned up: my localest station is shut at night (!), so I have to drive 5 miles to Bloxwich, where the traffic officers are out on a job (are there only 2?).

Now waiting for some contact, by which time matey boy will probably have sold/scrapped/repaired his car.....

I also get to spend Saturday getting estimates as I don't want to use the Insurance co's crappy repairer. Sick of this already.

The car is back, repaired. According to the insurance co, the other bloke is denying it all. Lesson for the day? get one of these for both cars:

Accident Camera Kits

and just block the junction next time.
