Brunters has ACTUALLY cost me...

Featured Replies

... an engine mount. :D

It would appear one of my engine mounts has been badly damaged... Guess they can't handle the torque.

SO, I've been told its 2.5 hours labour +

Changing engine mounts ranges from the childishly simple to the nightmarishly difficult. At its simplest it consists of disconnecting a few bits that can't be moved, sticking a jack under the sump, jacking the engine up a bit and swapping the mounts over. At its worst it requires engine removal. For your quoted 2.5 hours labour it sounds like the Fabia is closer to the simple end of the scale. Oh! for a Haynes manual !!

so JABBA cost me

not BRUNTERS cost me...

we changed the dog bone mount the night before brunters... powerflex do one.. much better for not a lot... Awesome hold them in stock...

 Good point Paul - a price worth paying ;) It just took Brunters to bring it out. I suspect under normal "occaisonal" full acceleration engine mounts shouldn't be too bad... I may check all the mounts when I jack up the car at the weekend. ;)

I've been told en engine mount swap should be SUCH an easy job really and 2.5 hours is a bit O.T.T. As good as the garage were at diagnosing the mount, I may have to bull5h1t them as to why I can't honour the booking I made at lunchtime for mid-May... :(

took rob about half an hour to change mine.

Better in what way?

I think I'll just use the mount/s out the wreck... This might sound totally stupid, but can you ADD mounts for extra support?

Don't forget the ones out of the wreck have a) done 60k miles already IIRC, and B) suffered from having an engine hung upside down from them rather than resting on them right way up as they were designed for. Inspect them carefully before using them.

Oh, and the simple answer is NO.

Thanks Nick - i did wonder... :D

The engine only hung upside down for about 45 minutes IIRC, and the mounts are only 50K miles old, but I get your point - they ARE used. ;) Careful inspection of the damaged mount and the ones on the wreck will be done this weekend.

It will be the rapid transition from right way to upside down that will have done the damage, if any, not the static hanging ...

rapid transition from right way to upside down

 Ummmm, it was... :(

Better in what way?

stiffer.. less torque lost through twist.

Just tell them you've rolled it again. They WILL believe you. :)

Well

Went out the car today with my mate who promptly grabbed something solid on the engine and shook it about a bit, and YES... :grumpy: The left hand mount (as you look at it - by oil filter, under reservior with pink stuff in :D) is all loose and wobbly... I'd never really looked closely at the mount but its made up a bolted frame with a rubbery sort of joint which is bolted to the engine's mount. All quite clever really - no metal to metal bolt. So monday's the day to hopefully do a mount swap, then I need to grovel to the garage that diagnosed the problem, cancel my appointment, and I'll give em some dosh for the effort they made.
