i just can't get my head around it, i have rung several companys out of AT and none of them can fathom out what may be the issue. imo i think the dealer was stumped aswell as his options were....

1/ try and get it calibrated.......no one i have spoke to has said they can do this

2/ new speedo head....cant even confirm that this will resolve the problem

3/ put up with it and put some little marks on the dash........i mean wtf is that about

have mailed customer services and issue has been logged am awaiting a case number......could not find a postal address so i sent an e-mail.....i await their comments. basically told them i felt ripped off and let down that what i consider a serious issue was not dealt with better and that i could not understand why a dealer had not carried out a calibration as standard.....i await their reply.will keep you informed

That's the way to do it.

begining to think the car is jinxed as some kn**head took my wing mirror off on the way home.....needles to say he did'nt get very far before i caught him, anyway he agreed to sort it out.fair play...this could due to the fact that i nearly ripped his door off as the lights were on red. anyway the 'stealer' has quoted me .....wait for it........210 pound fitted, i nearly wrote the car off as i asked.......''is nothing cheap[ on these things''. anyway seen one on ebay for 55, is the octavia electic/heated mirror a standard fit.

The mirror is a fairly easy fit, you remove the mirror switch to get to the wiring (don't need to remove the door card). Also you will need to get the cover sprayed, or use a plastic primer and halfords can (+ clear coat if metallic) so bargain on 3x halfords cans if doing it yourself and go steady don't get RUNS!

Anyhow - what is the FAULT CODE on your car re the speedo, have you had it scanned?

What is the readout on the climatronic compared to the speedo as posted above?

Suspect it's the speed sensor as I have same issue, with 1 Fault Found:

00281 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68)

37-00 - Faulty

i have tried the climatic control number 16 ( i think) however i think its displayed in kmph how do i change it to mph then i can check it against the speedo.......regarding having it scanned the stealer did it and reported no fault code.......by the way th mirror, blue glass, body shopsprayed and delivered.............100 pound. not a bad price i believe........thanks for advice and keep it coming folks i will get the bl**dy thing sorted one way or another. an auto electrician has suggested it may be the 'sppedo tranducer'

1 mile is pretty close to 1.609344 Km so divide by 1.609344 the value on the climate control to get miles

But your speedo has kmh as well.....

switched climatronic to mph today and set uo sat nav at around 30mph the speedo, climatronic and tt were all within 2mph.....at 70mph on the climatronic the tt was within 2-4 mph however the dash said 60 mph.where does the climatronic get its signal from .is it the same place as the speedo..........

Sounds like the speedo head then as the vehicle is obviously getting correct speed info (it only comes from one sensor in the box afik). I have a friend with a speedo that intermittantly doesn't do anything, but the odometer works fine even when the speedo will not rise above 0mph so I suspect the speedo unit in the dash pod on that too unless anyone has any better suggestions!

cheers for the help everyone.....is it possible to get a second hand head and get all info stored transferred or is it a totally new piece of kit, also has anybody got any idea of where the cheapest place to buy one is..

It will be a new dash panel as everything is electronic, the speedo needle is driven by an electric motor. The trouble with the dash panel is that it contains the immobiliser so trying a used unit will be a problem without immobiliser codes and VAG Com (or similar). For a new replacement the dealer will have one chance to enter your mileage, with a used one you will need to use some software like VAG Tacho which may be able to correct the mileage.
