speedo issue??

Featured Replies

bought a 02 vrs last week and noticed that the speedo seemed to be out, displaying a slower spped that what i was travelling at. the local dealer said that it's highly unlikely that the speedo etc is incorrect. however today a workmate sat at 70 while i drew level .....lo and behold my speedo said 58--60 mph mmmmmm was wondering anyone got any advice cheers

What size wheels & tyres are fitted?

can anyone help recently bought an 02 octavia vrs however speedo is out , local dealer siad that it is unlikely that this is the case. today a mate sat at 70mph while i drew alongside, a quick glance and my speedo shows 60mph can anyone give me some pointers please in how to resolve the issue cheers

Your workmate's speedo's wrong??

2 post for the same thing..my ar'nt you greedy

what wheel tire size on the car? If car is ment to have 17(think these were standard) an some1 changed to 16 then would have big effect on speedo I would imagine.

tried that one..didn't work for me.

Can you borrow an in-car sat nav, eg a TomTom, which would enable you to check the speedo's accuracy? As things stand, you car should not be on the road if the speedo underreads.

PS: I have merged the 2 threads on this subject.

have got a tom tom and will try it...it's going in for a wheel bearing tommorow i will have a chat with the lads. otherwise it's booked in at the dealers next thursday...

p.s thanks for merging the two threads

get a gps device like a sat nav or a talex and find a long straight road and keep to a set speed and see what it is on the sat nav/talex, your speedo should show 5% higher.

Someone been messing around with the dash panel codings?

  • Author

quite possible hopefully dealer will resolve the issue, had hpi checks done before i bought and everything seems straight and all service stamps and paperwork seem to 'marry' up with no evidence of tampering. the cars done 39k and has no indications of wear and tear over the displayed mileage.....fingers crossed that the dealer does'nt spank my ar**

I thought that and actually typed the reply previously but I had a quick check and couldn't find any different impulse settings.

thanks to all for advice ....let you know how things pan out after dealer has a look

on the run to work this morning sat nav route was 18.1 miles i clocked less than 15 and speedo was about 10mph out. at 30 speedo was within a tollerable range however around 70/80 the difference had increased to approx 10-12 mph........see what the nice man at parkside has to say??

If you have climatronic you can read the speed sensor on that and see if it is the instrument pack or the sensor which is faulty

Control codes are listed below for the Climatronic display in the Octavia.

To access the Climatronic's maintenence mode, press the following 3 Climatronic pushbuttons at the same time: Cold (blue - reducing interior temperature), Blower slower (fan speed down), and ECON. Scroll through the settings shown on the Climatronic using the two temperature keys (Blue and Red)

The best function is on channel 16, because the current speed is digitally indicated there!)

15 = time since engine start in seconds of

16 = speed (Digitaltacho) (kmh = metric, mph = imperial)

17 =?

took car into dealer, told me that speedo etc was out...shock horror...thats what i told him.cost me 60 quid to be told what i already knew. then proceeded to say i should try to get it calibrated or that i may need a new speedo head at 300-400 quid ( big shock horror)..... suggestions on a post card please. has any one else needed a new speedo head fiited or had their speedo calibrated.

No:1. Write to Skoda GB (recorded delivery)!

No;2. Post reply on here!

I have had the opposite issue, in that my speedo is about 10% out, showing a quicker speed than am travelling.

Not going to complain as stops me getting those tickets!!
