Causing the sheep to panic and buy more than they need, etc.. etc..

It's the sending the original email that I was getting at... not the people/sheep passing it on... and lets face it they don't need much of an excuse these days.

The thought police are everywhere

Me is thinking the power of bluejacking ;) text messaging would be traced back, but getting a gulible person via a phone contact sent using blueetooth, me thinks they might go home and write the message for us (if we were to come up with such a plan) ;) just thinking out loud you know ;):P:D

I think you need to be looking Eastwards in the direction of China and India, they can't get enough of the black stuff at the moment.

So tuesday.. you say... yes tuesday.. ohhhh so fill up my car on monday??? yes.. monday...

yes.. monday... hint hint hint hint...

Lets say - I work at a petrol station, and we have 'closed' two pumps - cough cough** for the emergancy services only.

The strike is happening on Tues - and it is the truckers again. M25 I think...

Please note - Im not just saying this.. The garage has put a restriction on 30 litres of fuel as of tomorrow.

This is only what I have heard - Im nothing high powered or anything, plenty of fuel.. just I know what happend last time this happend..

...

nice ;) dont forget the winter of discontent speech too

fuel would be around the 53ppl mark if you knock off the tax and add the vat to it (like any other product that attracts vat).

Where did the 19ppl come from?

Nuke emerging economies of India and China?

It's the Americans who drive most of the gas guzzling polluting cars and it's the Americans who will not cut their pollution and oil consumption

At least in Europe we have fast powerful economical cars and the growing economies are trying to match Europe not the US.

When Oil eventually runs out the USA will be royally screwed.

Where did the 19ppl come from?

Plucked out of his ****.

It's a total work of fiction designed to stir up trouble.

I'm sorry , but when I see blatant factual errors like that I immediately lose any tolerance for the cause in question.

I've said this no end of times , you can't look at a single item and make a fair comparison with other countries.

Yes , fuel is cheaper in france for example , but then they get toll booths every few miles on the motorway totally cancelling out any hypothetical saving

Then spend 20 minutes in the shop reading a magazine, having a coffee or using the toilet whilst your car takes up space at the pump.

Not only will this cause queues, but by buying only a small amount each time it will force people to make return trips which the station operators won't be able to cope with.

That sounds like a filling station with a Tesco express.

Maybe its time for one of these:

Damn Interesting The Atomic Automobile

Did you see the trouble they had designing an atomic powered aeroplane??

The yanks couldn't make it work and cancelled it and the Soviets got it working at the expense of the flight crew as they didn't bother with any reactor shielding (boo-hoo it's too heavy!).

Sorry love, the shopping will have to ride up front with us, the boot's full o lead!

A nuclear car is a great idea. But just when would someone invent the flux capacitor mod? :D

So we can all go way back in time and fill up when fuel was 19ppl

Yep was aware of the atomic powered plane(No reactor sheilding ), but didnt realise until did a bit of researching that there was plans for an atomic powered car

Is it the Kyoto Protocol that the UK signed up for, means we have to have a lot of tax on fuel , thats why the US wouldnt ratify it?

Taxation of fuel as a method of reducing its use is a stupid idea though. People either use petrol or they don't. If it's taxed they pay more and buy less of other things, if they're poor and can't pay more then they can't afford to get to work.

What should have happened years ago was less reliance on petrol. As soon as it was realised petrol perhaps wasn't too good for the environment perhaps the Government should have taxed the manufacturers of petrol cars and given tax breaks or some sort of bonuses to manufacturers who could make clean/cleaner cars. The Government relies on oil for revenue as much as Esso do now, so to kill off petrol cars would be shooting themselves in the foot. They don't really care about the environment, they just want the money.

Is there any other liquid you buy, apart from water and maybe heating oil, that you use in the same quantities....?

And that's £20 a gallon:eek:

Struggling to get more than 32mpg out of a 1.6 in this cold weather :bigcry: :bigcry:

Swap your Mazda for my Felly and you'll have no problem at all in that struggle :D

I'm old enough to remember the first "oil crisis" (1973-1974) when we even had a rationing system here in Sweden. After that petrol price landed at 16.5 p/litre. That's one sixth of to-days UK prices and yes, my salary had risen proportionally (a bit more, actually, but that has mainly to do with "career"). If I look at Swedish prices (86 p per litre for RON 95) petrol is pretty cheap when compared to 1974.

Plus, in 1974 there were no cars able to do 50+ mpg, today they are easy to find. In those days I drove a Citroën GS with a 1.2 litre engine and was happy if I could get 30 mpg in city traffic

If you want the fun of a strong and thirsty engine that you also use to it's full potential, it's your choice but don't complain over the bill. You reach your destination just as safe and just as quick (if you keep to the speed limits) in a Fabia 1.2 as in a vRS.

I previously ran a 1998 Seat Ibiza with the old skool vw 1.4 8v engine. It was usually criticised as being under-powered and thristy, so I was quite happy to get 38-42mpg out of it.

Naively, I thought the buying a modern 1.6 16v VVT type engine that I could match that economy with an increase in perfromance - how wrong I was

Filled up this mornign so should be good for 10 days  You can start a blockade whenever you like but I'll be:

1) keeping at least half a tank

2) start going on the train if it looks bad for fuel

Last but not least, in light of Rob Shaw's comments, 4 pumps were locked off at the petrol station I used this morning. Unusual becasue it was both petrol and diesel but only on 4 pumps :rubchin:

How are the pumps served? I always assumed they had 3 underground tanks, one for diesel, one for unleaded and one for super so shutting off pumps doesn't actually prevent all the fuel being bought up? Probably wrong

Chris

Sure, it's expensive compared to the USA which is my main grievance but in reality for the product it's probably not.

Being honest, if petrol was £2 per litre would people use their cars all that much less? Can someone do a poll?

Nah, the country as a whole would just get into more and more debt. Personally, I'd be asking for a pay rise to compensate or to work from home more and saving me 50 litres of diesel a week :D

Exactly, I think peoples credit cards just take the hit.

Working from home is a good idea!

I wouldn't mind paying £2.00 per litre for petrol if they halved the cost of public transport by subsidy.
