terrible place,i think some of the worst atrocitys were commited outside the gas chamber,i read a book about nazi's a few years ago and there was one story of a nazi doctor who skinned people and used the skin to upholster some chairs, the skinned people were given no pain relief at all just chained down, there were lots of accounts of loads of other things which happened in places like this, sick evil people,it beggars belief quite how barbarick some humans are.

great photos that touched home as well, my grandfather was jewish and fled africa in the second world war when the nazis invaded, he was very lucky - for reasons i can imagine he was banished from judaism for marrying outside of the religion to an english woman but still practiced till the day he died.

I went to this camp whilst driving to the Ukraine..

NOTHING can prepare you for the feeling you get entering it. Sickening, and a stark reminder of the inhumanity of humans.

If I have Children, as soon as they are old enough to understand I'll take them.

I honestly could not take pictures-and for about 3 days afterwards, neither myself or my driving mate Dave were able to speak about it.

I haven't been there for many a long year, but my most intense memory was that no birds sang there, even though it was a glorious day.

The only time I've ever felt anything similar is when visiting some of the old war cemeteries, or an old workhouse in the Peak District. They say that the land soaks up the emotions, and I for one believe it.

Yep we noticed that too....... Not a sound of a single bird in an area so vast....... What made it a little more chilling was the dogs barking at a nearby farm.... As though they were on guard in the camp!!!!:eek::eek:

Cheers

Dave.
