Asr / Esp???

Featured Replies

My vRS has ASR, but some car pics i've seen have ESP.

Whats the difference?

ASr stops the front wheels spinning

ESP is stability control

ASR = crap

ESP = good .......basically

asr only works through the front wheels, and esp controls all four wheels

Anti Slip Regulation iirc

Electronic Stability Programme iirc

Dont all the fabia VRS's come with ASR rather than ESP? I have ASR and as said it is crap, with a remap the wheels just spin anyway! I Got a really steep hill near me and i got all the way up there in 2nd gear at 5000revs in the wet but only going about 15MPH because the wheels were just spinning like crazy!

What is 'iirc' i keep seeing in everywhere but my blonde head cant work it out!

iirc = if i remember/recall correctly ......blondie

Esp was an option on the octavia it comes with asr as standard

have a search and you'll see the big debate

i think ill just turn it off.. lol

Is it me or does the car feel quicker with it off? Placebo?

As said, ASR is anti-slip regulation and just limits wheel spin. ESP limits wheel spin but also keeps you on track if you need to make sudden, high-speed avoidance maneuvers. Basically ESP is able to brake individual wheels to prevent the car from spinning.

Skip to 6 minutes 20 for the ESP bit.

the octavia WRC and 4x4 came with esp and it was optional on most of the other models.

completely different things :)

esp is loads better than asr/tc, but you still swith it off if you want to make a quick gettaway :D

ASR dangerous. ESP good.

i do turn it off for getaways definitly but i tend to turn it back on once i'm up and running though.

I keep mine all the time because im a woos :(

I've had it cut in a few times and moaned to the girlfriend its a crap system, but in my head im thanking the damn thing for not letting me find the nearest ditch!!!

tried it without, not any noticable difference.

the haldex sorts out traction from a standstill way better than the esp :D

I've got the "ASR" button above the stereo... but when I turn on the dash I have an ESP light... any ideas? Must say it feels quite safe if you go too fast in to a round about, just slows down alot and keeps going where I'm pointing (- with a little understeer!) Any thoughts to what I have?

i dislike ASR a LOT! kicks in at bad times usually and doesnt stop interveining quick enough.

I turn it off unless im going for a sedate drive. but just drive more aware of whats going on with the car and what will happen if you just plant the throttle.

ESP ive never really tested it but seems like a much better system and one you could leave on happily unless your planning on making some real progress.

ESP - Leave on majority of time

ASR - turn off if planning on moving faster than miss daisy

when i first got mine the ASR used to work, but now the wheels just spin anyway and the ASR light flashes but deosnt cut back the revs like it did when i first had the car :S

If i do have ESP I don't think I can turn it off... I don't know if I have it as there's no button? like I say only on the dash.... leave ASR most of the time because unless I'm trying to take round abouts like lewis hamilton then doesn't really affect me... just don't cane it off the line in the wet. Anybody else got the ESP light but ASR button?? confusing....

youll only have one button and thatll decide on what youve got unless someone has put on the wrong button.

i have the same symbol when i turn my ASR off as my Brother has for his ESP

as to ASR not working id go to a dealer and get it checked ASAP as id be worried if it didnt seem to be working.

You don't have ESP. You will have one button, either ASR or ESP (which incorporates the functions of ASR). The light on the dash is the same no matter which version you have.

Never mind, you can order it on the next car you buy :D

Your not confusing EPC on the dash panel for ESP

Your not confusing EPC on the dash panel for ESP

Unlikely. When ESP or ASR is disabled, the same symbol which flashes when the system is triggered is permanently lit on the dash to remind you that you're "flying solo".

Doh... I realised it was optional to have ESP when I bought the car, but it may well say EPC. Was having a special moment when I looked obviously. Must say don't ever really turn it off unless I'm trying to pull off quickly as I find it doesn't hinder me much out on the road... again, maybe I'm just a wuss lol

Two things...

ASR is MUCH better on the octy then it is on the furby vRS.

and doesnt jabba offer an upgrade for the octy? dunno if its the ASR or ESP, but i remember seeing a couple of people get upgrades off the Audi S3 because thats better or something.?
