Asr / Esp???

Featured Replies

Unlikely. When ESP or ASR is disabled, the same symbol which flashes when the system is triggered is permanently lit on the dash to remind you that you're "flying solo".

I mean when he first turns on the car and all the lights come up one of them is EPC :)

Aah, sorry, that makes sense :o

After owning a Octy Vrs with ASR and now a 4x4 with ESP i can confirm ESP is miles better although 4x4 does help with grip:rofl:

The ASR on my VRS actually worked quiet well in all gears bar first which it just coudln't hold back, and did prevent a small amount of understeer on wet roundabouts if you weren't going too fast, if you accelorated till the point of slip in 2nd of 3rd it was able to cut the power enought to stop you going off into oblivion, but ASR cant break the laws of physics which some people exepect it to.

ESP on the other hands works really well when turned on have tried a few fast turning manovers on a private test track and was unable to get myself out of shape unless being totally stupid, again trying to defy the laws of physics.

Turned off it just seriously understeers with over steer if youget the positioning right from a right to left flick:D

but left on and using the 4x4 to get off a firends very muddy/rutted wet field it's really good, just planted the throttle to the floor ESP takes over holds the revs at about 1800rpm vurtually no wheel spin (ie no mud plastered on the car) and it just slowly drove round and out, yes you could feel the ESP and Haldex doing it's stuff but it got me off with any drama.

i'm not completely sure my asr does anything, aside from flash a little amber light when i'm giving it welly in first ;)

Two things...

ASR is MUCH better on the octy then it is on the furby vRS.

and doesnt jabba offer an upgrade for the octy? dunno if its the ASR or ESP, but i remember seeing a couple of people get upgrades off the Audi S3 because thats better or something.?

Strange... I've found it the other way around!

My Fabia was good... but the Octy tries to kill me!

do it with and without to see.

My Mk1 doesn't have a button for either ASR or ESP. Were there some that have neither (or is it just that there were some were you can't turn it on or off)? Asking cos I may need a new master brake cylinder and want to make sure I get a compatible one.

The very basic of spec on the Octavia’s do not have the option. I believe it started on the elegance and up.

There is a brochure on here somewhere I which you can check the trim levels/optional extras.

Thanks. Was a bit unsure cos the manual seemed to suggest it should have one or the other

VW / Skoda confuse with their poor choice of names.

ASR / TC is the same thing.  Anti Slip Regulation / Traction Control.   Maybe a button, maybe not.

ESP / ESC  , Electronic Stability Programme / Electronic Stability Control.    Different thing from ASR / TC,  but at times they mix the whole thing up.

Before ESP because a EU requirement on all cars, Skoda even had ESP as an option on some models right up to when they had to have it as standard like on  MK2 face Lift Fabias.
