it's going in to a tyre place tomorrow ill get them to look at it while its in....

Deceptively tough those back boxes, FUBAR'd a panel on a bus driving over one

nasty! :(

Not a nice start to work in the morning, I'll be watching for stray exhausts when I'm in your neck of the woods tomorrow.

Oh dear.

Dare I say the aftermarket alloys are perhaps a bit weak??

Good luck getting it sorted mate!

I had a similar incident whilst doing around 80mph in the middle lane of the M1 in the IS200 we used to have....... I hit what looked to be an approx 4-5" piece of rock or concrete with both the nearside wheels. Both tyres deflating instantly and i got the car over to the hard shoulder. (Says something about how good the IS's handling was as she still just kept going in the direction i pointed her :)). Called Lexus assist who took me to a tyre place which is when we found both 18" alloys looked very similar to yours.:eek::eek:.

Back on to Lexus assist to get them to take the car from the tyre place to the Lexus dealer who got someone to stay behind and wait for us to arrive, (By this time it was after 6pm)..... And then picked the car up the next day from the dealer after purchasing 2 new wheels.

Cheers

Dave.

Lucky it wasn't more central else it could have made a mess of the sump.

well the steel wheel's are back on for the rest of the winter till i decide what to do....

i have a few options

  1. track down a new 15" matrix extreme alloy and clean the remaining 3 good wheels
  2. as above but sell them.... and look for some oem wheels from audi, skoda, seat or vw
  3. or if i cant find a replacement wheel i will sell the 3 wheels in the paper and do the same as in 2

I had the misfortune to be driving my wife's Fiesta 1.6SI behind a Transit pick-up, when it dropped its spare wheel - didn't think that I could safely avoid it so took it "square on" - got a nasty thump and felt a slight "launch", checked my rear mirror and it came out the back and got whipped up neatly onto the grass verge - that was quite handy for the guy in the Transit as he was just stopping in front of me. I checked under the car later - only some dark red paint on the cross member - I think that I was very very lucky, I don't want to have to do that again.

well i visited the garage i got the alloys from yesterday and my fears were confirmed the wheels i had are now discontinued and they cant track down a replacement.... so i guess im gonna have to start looking on e-bay to see if 1 comes up....... failing that ill be looking for a whole new set in the spring.... though i may consider 2nd hand oem wheels

Oh dear im not having much luck with wheels......

Driving back from a nice run this afternoon i had a momentry lapse of concentration and bumped into a bank at the side of a back road and damaged the nearside wheel on my car.... :(

so does any1 know off hand how much a 6.0"J x 14 steel wheel is?

Take off the other steel wheel on the same axle, and fit two of the good alloys. The car will look a little strange but it will be fine.

Is it just me that is a little concerned with your driving, experience?

You failed to avoid a back box, which tbf may have been hard on a roundabout.

BUT, you couldn't change a wheel by yourself? Phoned a recovery service and a friend to do it. And now you have had another 'lapse of concentration' and damaged the other driving wheel.

I'm no driving god, nor vastly experienced (Being 19, nearly 2 years driving experience and no mishaps). But I've changed wheels a couple of times by myself no problem, and like to think I'm alert enough whilst driving.

/rant over

Good luck with your car and sourcing a steelie.

the reason i called the recovery service was that at the time i didnt know if there was other damage to the car not because i couldnt change the wheel by myself, also it was dark and wet and i was in a bus stop at the time.... i managed to change the wheel today by myself
