Is it possible to retrofit xenons?

Featured Replies

I have a Fabia vRS and was looking at the projector headlights on Superskoda but they are LHD. Can you retrofit the UK xenon headlights for a Fabia? I mean can you order the xenon headlamp units from Skoda and fit them to any Fabia? I know Milotec do the conversion, but I prefer the OEM ones actually :)

Thanks

Yes.

But it's VERY expensive.

Very?

off the top of my head you would need

xenon lights

new bumper,or cut holes in the existing one

washers

self leveling units

erm i think thats it

You can get hold of the lamp units and plug them in. It won't be a full xenon system and it won't self leveling but it does work.

Thanks Stu, that's what I was hoping for. I know technically it needs the washers and self leveling if it was to be a proper legal HID unit, but that doesn't usually stop me. :)

So, anyone have any prices and part numbers handy for the xenon lamp units?

Fecking expensive should cover it.

Thread moved to more appropriate forum.

lamps are £500 a side, AFAIK

If got hold of projector lamps you could get away with it without fitting washers and levellers.

Most people agree that Furby headlights are amongst the best on a modern car. I'd recommend upgrading the dipped headlight bulbs to Philips Extreme +80%, and either Rally 100w or 130w for the main beams. Should come in at under £50 and be just as good as Xenons IMHO.

Well no, not really.

Did you read this? (Specifically point 2)

I didn't say it was legal... just that you would probably get away with it.

There are probably about 100 people on the Corsa website who have retro-fitted xenons to their later projector lamps.... not a single one has failed MOT... a few have been pulled but upon producing papers showing they are TUV approved the police have let them on their way.

Provided they are aligned correctly, in projector headlamps, kept clean and you go for a sensisble kelvin rating i.e. 6k or 8k you would get away with HID's retro-fitted.

But for how long.... I am not so sure.....

I think fitting the full headlight unit to the Fabia, which is what we were talking about here, you'd be ok in terms of blinding people and the MOT. The problem seems to arise from having after market lamps fitted into a unit that wasn't ever desgined to take them.

Mainly that is the issue, ie xenons HID units are getting fitted into head light units that do not have projector lens fitted - just old time reflectors, hence the scattered light problem.
