Ride comfort with Eibachs on standard shocks?

Featured Replies

I am considering buying an Eibach ProKit springs, the ones that lower with 25mm and can be used on standard shocks. I was wondering how is the ride comfort after that? And also is it worthed putting them on the standard shocks? I can see that it is a popular kit amongst Briskodians.

It's fairly good, as straight spring replacements go. I found the ride much more firm, and handling was much improved. Less nose dive under breaking too. Be aware that you'll wear the standard shocks out quicker though, as they have more to do.

If you can, change the shocks too. Perhaps further down the line when you've worn the std shocks out a bit! How many miles has the car done?

The car has done ~6k miles. I am thinking of combining the springs with some Cupra bushes now. In the future - a strut on the front and rear anti-roll.

Koni FSDs make an excellent companion to the Eibach shocks. But for now maybe just fit the springs.

Your other mods all sound like good choices too

So as far as I understand the ride comfort should be the same as with the standard springs, but a lot stiffer handling. That is exactly what I am looking for.

Any pics, please?

Ride comfort WILL NOT be the same as standard. It will be bumpier but not that much more than standard. Im running eibach pro kit with standard shocks and jabba ARB and the handling is spot on!!

Are there any smooth roads in Bulgaria?

Yes, a section of the A1 motorway near Vakarel for example:

No, mate. We are running on gravel.

To be honest I find the suspension far too soft even with the Eibach's on! It wallows a lot less than it did as standard but still needs to be stiffer IMO, but luckily I don't live in a pothole infested area.

I would personally spend a bit extra and get the matching Eibach shocks as it makes the ride a bit less choppy, imho. As Steve says, by doing them all at once you'll also save yourself at least the cost of one suspension fitting when the standard shocks wear out :D

Just had mine done, with standard shocks ( today )

The handling is noticably stiffer, and it corners a lot flatter, giving the car a more trusting feel.

I will give it a proper test tomorrow all being well, and if I don't kill myself I will attempt a proper resume.

I've had the Eibach ProKit springs on standard dampers for a couple of months now and am delighted at the handling and the excellent standard of ride comfort. Before taking the plunge I was a wee bit apprehensive that the 17" Octys + Eibach combination would be too harsh but now I've absolutely no reservations in recommending them. Great mod.

Here's a pic.

The eibachs do improve the handling alot, but i find that both the std dampers and even the eibach ones are a bit too soft and let the car bounce around too much.

dont forget to modify your bump stops while fitting the springs.. this will also improve comfort.. with the eibachs on, the bumpstops will already be touching.. either get hold of the smaller ibiza items, or cut a couple of sections out of your existing ones

Thanks for that, mate. Haven't really thought about it. I like the idea for the Ibiza ones, as I have a pretty decent price reduction at the local Seat dealer. These are from the Cupra (PD160), not the FR (PD130), right?

Does somebody know if the plastic arch under the fender from a Seat Ibiza FR, 1,8T will fit the Fabia without much modification? I saw that it has an air-vent for the cooler standardly, no need to draw holes .

Yep, good shout on the bump stops. Had forgotten about this.

On the arch liner, unfortunately it won't fit :( I need to mod here too, but may go for an FMIC shortly anyway. Best way forward is to get an Audi TT Mk1 archliner and cut out the vent, then cut a suitable hole in yours and preferably glue it in with a hot glue gun. There's lots of info from people doing this, search for 'Pikey Mod'.

****e... I will have to investigate in ETKA what is going to fit and if nothing, then I will have to produce one.

Nothing is directly compatible, I'll save you the EKTA search :)

As I said, best OEM type route is to get hold of a TT liner. Although some have just cut a suitable hole and placed a standard plastic/metal grille in there from a hardware store and rivetted/glued it in place.

I would check with the dealer and get whatever the shortest combination are... i cant remember off the top of my head if the FR and Cupra bumpstops are different.. seat have some bizzare suspension theories.. springs are softer on the cupra than the FR, yet have much stiffer dampers
