What am I doing wrong?

Featured Replies

My problem is :- I LOVE IT JUST THE WAY IT IS!

Judging by thousands of postings here I should be spending a fortune trying to make the car into something it isn't.

Am I the only satisfied owner?

I think these sort of communities will always attract the "tweakers" who just want to improve something and in doing so find a new weak link which needs upgrading and the whole lot cascades. Having been out in a few vRS's, I much prefer the handling with better suspension and a rear arb which makes the car more composed, and a remap/hybrid turbo make the car drive more like a petrol than a horrible diesel where you're constantly stirring the box.

Everything's based on personal experience though, which will be relative to previous cars you've owned. If you're happy then

It's funny.....I thought when first got the car that it was fine the way it was. But, nearly 1 year down the road and some minor modifications have found their way into my little Furby.

I always vowed to get leather - the stupid white seats are just plain silly unless you're called Uncle Escobar and wear white suits to match.

After a while I found the handling just didn't live up to my expectations and doesn't inspire confidence now I'm willing to push it a bit harder, hence a RARB is on the way. My console bushes lunching themselves forced me into Cupra bushes (at £200 a pop to change them I didn't want to be doing it again in a hurry).

A remap 'may' happen but that will be after I've changed insurers in July as I doubt Direct Line would look too kindly on that one. They've been ok up to now but a 30% power hike may be one step too far.

The car itself is not all that bad, especially for newcomers, but after a bit of use and as you get used to it, the shortcomings become clear. Having said that, for some the standard car may be perfectly sufficient. Trouble is, I've driven and owned many sporty cars and feel the vRS is far more capable than how Skoda sent it from the production line with a few simple tweaks here and there.

I've declared all my 'additions' with Direct Line and it didnt make much difference.

Try and do them all in one go though. They seem to charge a 'fee' every time you add something new.

Yeah, they were 'ok' with the RARB and the Cupra bushes (extra £160 a year plus more on the excess), but there's no power hike there.

I don't know where everyone gets the money to modify their cars!! I'm on a good wage (over £30k) but once the tax, mortgage, bills, food, fuel, insurance etc etc come out I'm left with about £50 a month  as the subject states "What am I doing wrong?"...or is it just being a young single homeowner? :(

credit is where most people go wrong, save for it,buy it i'm on a crap wage and own both my 07 motors and am able to mod both:Dok so i might not be on that bad a screw but i do over 90 hours a week for it:thumbdwn:

i was only thinking the other day that maybe were too critical of our furbies, a little rattle here, or there, is carecter building. has anyone looked on seat forums ect, to see if they are striving for perfection, as most of us are?

I definitely think this is a factor as the cost of a mortgage is a sizeable chunk out of take home pay. From what I see on the site, a lot of people seem to be renting/living with their parents which must free up some spare disposable income for modding.

Chris

some seem happy with standard cars others are modding as though they are millionaires

Yes, I entered the house market back in 1976 - interest rates were either 15% or 17% - I can't remember which, I was lucky as my wife was earning as much as me, but for a couple of years it was an exGPO Anglia van followed by an exS&N Escort van, basically just personal transport and no more. You've just got to set your priorities, all the Anglia got upgrade with was a gear lever extension (so that wife could sit in th ecorrect position and change gear, the Escort got a roof mounted aerial - but just for effect - oh and an Escort XL dash so that I could see the engine temperature!

I'm lucky I guess....bought our house 5 years ago just before prices in our area went mental and as a result have a relatively small mortgage. Couple that with a decent wage and the fact the missus works full time and hey presto, modding tokens. :D

I am just a mafia boss, so i cant really afford to modify my skoda. Its completely standard, did you know ;)

Very simple for me - I found a vRS that suited down to the ground at the right price. I then had funds left over that allowed for the changes I've subsequently made.

LMFAO

Damn right...... It's a beautiful thing when the Skoda dealer is respectful enough to kiss your hand when you take it in for a warranty claim.

Yeah I guess sharing a mortgage makes a big difference! I bought my house about 18 months ago and pay the mortgage and bills on my own :( my other half is still a student and lives in halls 50 miles away!

Never mind, I guess in a few years things might change!! I just have to be patient I guess. Oh, if anyone in the NW needs help with GCSE - A-level maths and/or physics, I'm on hand to help for a price! ;)
