Icy windows inside!

Featured Replies

One day isnt really enough time for a car to dry out inside, it will take quiet a while on these cold days.

I've been having the same issue with my 06 Fabia estate. No trace of water ingress yet a Niagara of condensation/frost.

Last night I took the pollen filer out, bone dry by the way, and within 90 minutes, all the frost and condensation had gone. It had gone cloudy and slightly less cold but still....

I'll leave the filter out for a few days and see how it goes.

So where is this pollen filter then?

Look under the dash on the passengers side, against the center console you'll see a plastic cover. Slide the clips together and pull the cover down. The filter will either come out with it or you can pull it down using the tab.

Note which way it fits as it's one-way only.

Thanks very much! I'll take a look shortly.

Bit of an update before I shuffle off to my bed.

Very frosty morning. Inside a little ice, but no where near as much as earlier this week. Cleared quickly and dried off with paper towel. Definite improvement with the filter out. I'll see how it goes on over the next few days.

Still no sign of the source of the moisture, carpets dry and no puddle in boot.

Have some Rain-x anti-fog on order.

Are you 'sure' your carpets are dry, specifically the rears? Lift the mats and check the underside for condensation. Also, check to see that the door seals have no water on top of them. They should be bone dry when you open the door after a shower/ car wash. Water on top of the rubber means the carrier is letting the water come over them through the door cards and then into the base of the carpet. My carpets felt dry on the top but there was condensation under the mats and the seals were wet on top.

I think I have found the problem.....

Peeled the door seal away from where it meets the interior trim/carpet retainer and what I thought was glass, is actually ice. Water has been creeping in from somewhere.

Looks like it will be taking a trip to the dealer for investigations and repairs under warranty.

All booked in for the new year. Have put a moisture trap in to help keep it under control.

I've also had frost on the inside of the car. The rear left footwell is damp so its going into Skoda on friday to get sorted!

Murrays Skoda tell me my leak is caused by a faulty window regulator. But they did not have the part in stock, so it's going back on the 29th. Can anyone tell me if this has anything at all to do with the seals? Thanks.

I had this problem last year and took it back to the dealer who told me the air-con was working fine and the pollen filter was bone dry. The carpets were also dry. A friend at work said he used to have the same problem but never solved it.

In the meantime, I have found what seems to be a fix for it. I'll break it down into steps.

1. When you park up, just before you turn the engine off, turn all the blowers to the fascia vents.

2. Close the vents tight. There will be a hissing as the air tries to escape.

3. Turn the engine off.

When you start up in the morning, turn the blowers to "feet only" and run it on that for a moment or two. After a few minutes, you can switch it back to whatever you want and open the fascia vents as well. I tend to keep the heat up in winter as well, partly because it seems to help keep everything dry and partly 'cos I'm a wuss when it comes to cold. Ranulph-Fiennes I am certainly not.

Anyway, since I started doing this, I have had only two occasions when I have had condensation/ice inside. Normally it would be almost every cold/damp morning. I don't know exactly why it works, but I think it's because the car gets warm and dry and then sealed against the outside world when I turn it off.

Anyway, have a try and let me know if it works for you.

For the record, I have a Fabia Elegance Estate 1.9TDi and I keep the air-con on all the time.

Happy motoring!

Jonathan

I tried sealing up the rear doors back in the summer, but am now facing the prospect of redoing it again, plus the fonts as well!

Unfortuneatly the sealant has effectively dried out, and wondered if people had used different (less expensive) stuff?
