Omg, glad your ok, that could of been much worse.

At least your doing us girls proud by changing the wheel yourself. Good on ya and well done :)

Glad you're ok :)

I'm surprised no one got to you sooner - no disrespect but imo two females on their own in a "broken down" car should be attended to sooner!

Well done for changing it yourself though :) not many people can do this!

On a side note, did you try to call anyone from the meet or were you too far away at the time? As If I'd of gone and heard, I'd of been there to help out and at least you could've kept warm in my car!

At least you're ok, except for a few scrapes.

I don't think I had the number of anyone at the meet tbh, I tried ringing two of my friends re: the locking wheel nut, as I've never actually had to take one off before. I rang col but he was asleep and my friend wayne but he was asleep too! Then I couldn't think of anyone else to ring and I didn't want to disturb anyone, it was about half 12 by this point.

No, nobody stopped to help - having said that if they did I'd prob have just been scared they were gonna stab me or something! RAC knew it was 2 girls I think, but they still didn't get there before I'd done it myself

Woo, mum just text, my alloy is fine :) cheapest tyre at clover leaf garage is £91 :(

The RAC attendance is appauling!

I see - I thought you'd left the meet before everyone else (DOH).

Well, either way, you did alright

Lets hope it doesnt happen again.

£91!!! Thats not cheap! Those bleedin low profilers!!

Never mind... suppose if you need a new tyre... you need a new tyre.

At least the alloy is fine, that could have been expensive!

Yay and booo

Yeah, I was really worried about the alloy, I've never kerbed an alloy either on blackfabbie or bluefabbie so I was so gutted about this. I stopped straight away so must have been in time to save it.

£91! Take it to a tyre place - you can get a decent tyre for 60-70 quid :D

Yeah but they are conti sportcontactII.

just get the spare tyre put on the alloy, and get a cheapy tyre for the spare

Just what I was thinking, so you keep all tyres the same, without being ripped off

Then pop something reasonable, but cheaper on the spare. I'd go for a Kumho KU31 from Camskill for £50. KUMHO KU31 from Camskill

Then pay a local tyre fitter to swap them round.

how much is all the fitting though? by the time i've had one swapped and bought another and had that fitted ive probably done more messing about and paid about the same!!

Jeez Loz, you've had one helluva evening but REALLY glad the pair of you are safe!!!! :)

Do you have any idea why the tyre shredded like that, only really seen lorry tyres in that state before?

As for the skimpy clothing you were wearing last night in the freezing cold I would'nt be surprised if you had a couple of places for hanging coats! ;):P

Oh and btw, if you ever get stuck again you can call me if you like although I may not be of much use to you being so far away!

About £5-10 to get a tyre moved from one rim to another, and about the same to get a new tyre put on a rim...

Rob.

Well done you.

Pleased to hear you're ok (if you weren't I guess I'd not know though). But what's this about locking nuts being complicated; one end of the adapter goes in the hole in the nut and the other one in the hole in the wheelbrace! ;)

Glad you're ok, Loz - outcome could have been a lot worse  I've also put a torch in the car (along with a few tools) because I know that when I need to change a wheel it's bound to be the middle on the night on an unlit bit of road

Chris

Glad you're ok - might I suggest a headlamp ( little LED jobs use 3 AAA batteries give out a lot of light in pitch dark)or a flourescent tubie type rather than /as well as a torch ( and then a torch that works off the lighter socket ,so no bad times with flat batteries).OOH -- and a high viz vest ----get a good one --then you can be seen a looooong way off --I can spot the stripes on(a works one) one at up to 200 yards at night with a handlamp.(better still get two -one for you and another for the passenger - they fold/screw up nice and small)

Nice to see another female ( got a biker daughter who hates pink, she also drives a car) who can change a wheel - but prefers to pick up mobile and shout "dad got a puncture ,what do I do " (The other daughter just "phones dad")

I agree it's simple when someone tells you how, but unfortunately I'm not psychic and never having removed or even looked at a locking wheel nut until that second I didn't know what I needed to remove it or what the thing would look like. I just presumed I must have something so phoned mum who looked in the handbook. When she told me it was an adapter that fits in the wheelbrace I asked if it looked like a wheel nut, she said yes and then I knew what it would be because I rememebered seeing it, but because I could only see the top of it I presumed it was a spare wheelnut at first.

Okay; I didn't know you'd never seen one properly before.

Good Gal - as a mere male of many years, I would have been in trouble if I didn't live in an area where Alloys NEED TO BE PROTECTED.

If you were my daughter -I'd be proud that you worked it out.

Glad everyones OK have only seen remolds do that on a car, must have been running really low pressure.

Check all your other tyres are at the correct pressure. Get into the habit of checking tyre pressures once a week.:)

Throwing a tread usually indicates overheating, which indicates running way too low a pressure, but it may indicate sidewall damage (say from a pothole or brick) or a manufacturing flaw.

I'd agree that you should check pressures regularly, on cold tyres, which means spending a whole twenty quid on a decent pencil gauge and a pump.

As previously stated my tyres and everything else ARE regularly checked, if not by me then by my mum, who is obsessive over things like that and is the one who made sure I knew how to change a wheel in the first place.

As I said, I can think of 3 other reasons for a tyre going like that, leaving aside the prospect you'd picked up a puncture last night.
