More slippage - a couple of stoopid questions

Featured Replies

:iagree: - exactly what I was getting at :)

I mean what do you know anyway, you only work for them ;)

For the record, I'm very happy with my Sachs organic, in conjunction with a standard DMF.

 i know :D and yes the many people i have spoken to have been happy with there sachs clutchs too ;)

I am very very very happy with mine :P

The clutch is a bit of a weak point. boot it like that on a stock map and you'll kill it eventually.

Your peak torque should be at around 2500 anyway, so why are you booting it at 1500?

I "booted" it here because this is where I tended to end up cruising and I like the torque when the turbo kicks in at these revs. My comment about 2500 is that is where the revs end up after the slip is "caught", if thats the correct term. I'm now "booting it" only from over 2500 and I get what you mean - its pulling your face off at that speed

On my angel map at 1500rpm it's turning 167lb/ft. at 2500 you'll be turning nearly 270lb/ft.

The 'sweet spot' is between 2500 and 4000. For me the purpose of a remap was to get more torque right up to the top and make it more petrol like.

Mine was to get more overtaking torque, most of my driving is A-roads. And a nice side-effect is removing BMW 3-series from your tailgate even more effectively than before.

Why does anyone buy a 318i ?

Here is a rundown of torque over rpm from my rr:

1500 - 167

2000 - 259.7

2500 - 264.5

3000 - 245.1

3500 - 232.3

4000 - 227.4

4500 - 197.0

As you can see, you've got plenty of grunt right up to 4000rpm

Thanks for the breakdown, thats really interesting as we have the same remap.

Using the very low down grunt may feel quick but because you are changing up too soon, you aren't building up the horses and are making surprisingly little progress.

Depends what you mean by progress. For me is just getting past that next 'obstacle' rather than flat out speed or 0-60 times. I kind of work out "Horses" and "torque" as "work done in total" and "work being done now".

BTW, i wouldnt let you anywhere near my car ;)

Which is why I wanted the advice as to what other people did. I'm kind of in an owners club one one here - Mrs A has an Octavia which is different again and most of my petrol-head friends have gone with Type-Rs - a car I could never get on with - "wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, woosh, that was it - next..."

So maybe the new "A" with better driving manners may get more of a look in.:o

PS - Sorry I mean my post with big :thumbup:s for the replys, I'm not moaning just looking for the advice.

Cheers.

I always understood it as bhp=work done, torque=the speed at which the work gets done.

or

BHP is the speed at which you hit the wall, torque is how much of the wall you take with you. :D
