Electric prob ! oct mk1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi All

Can anyone please advise me.

These faults all occured at the same time.

1. Drivers window has jammed, leaving a inch and a half gap around window.

2. None of the other windows are working now

3. Interior lights in the head lining wont work now

4. Doors wont open or lock when using the remote fob.

This week has been freezn an its doind me head in early in the morning with a icey freeze coming in. Wakes me up though.

I automatically assumed for three electrical components to go down all at the same time, then surely a fuse has blown.

I have checked the fuse box on the edge of the drivers side dash. Couldnt see any blown ones.

But i read on another post that there are sum electric window cut off fuses located - remove the panel around the pedals and look up thats were they are. I avnt had a look yet.

Now i am a bit more concerned that the elec window motor may have gone.

On the other hand i was hoping someone would reply saying "yer i had same prob it was block fuse part no ????? which is located ?????

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Merry Xmas to you all

I might be wrong here but it sounds like its related to the loom connector in the drivers door which can rot away internally.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Now i think on, it was a frosty morning last week and i poured luke warm water on all the windows to defrost them, then it was when i got in the car i lowered my window inch n half then it jammed and would not go up, then i noticed other things had packed in as well.

But that is no different to when the car gets washed i suppose.

Hows much is a new loom connector any idea.

am over the water

there is also a large connector on the bottom of the electric window motor ,the large white one in the attached pic ( this is from a rear door ) which affected locking when it was disturbed on my octy

Hi

Thanks for that.

I think i will try clean and vaseline the connector and see what happens.

If that doesnt work i will have to get a new connector.

I am still puzzled as to why my interior lights now wont work and locks wont work off the fob.

Cheers

If you are any good with a soldering iron if the connector pins are broke people have soldered the wires together and insulated properly. Its all linked into that unit in the door strangely.

It could also be the control unit in the drivers door, as it controls most of the problems you're having. Get someone nearby with VAG-COM to do a quick scan. There's no point in destroying the loom if its not the actual problem.

Had one where the main feed wire into the door had broken, the thick red cable where the loom ran along the bottom of the door, bridging the wire from the footwell to the door control unit confirmed this. A favourite place for the wires to break is where they pass through the door post. As mentioned corroded pins on the control unit will cause things not to work. It may be a combination of faults so don't forget to check the window regulator as well.

You have a convenience system on the car which comprises of a control unit under the dash behind the light switch and four door control units which contain the window motors. These are all on a Controller Area Network (CAN). When you operate a switch a signal is sent to every recipient such as the mirrors, windows, door locks and interior light, only the recipient which recognises this signal responds, this is why the interior lights and remote locks don't work. The signal is not reaching its destination.

Do the other windows work off their respective door switches?

Have a look at my thread on central locking & windows. Sounds like a not dissimilar problem.
