Screenwash...

Featured Replies

In my years of working with VW i've never seen a "fan" or normal type washer jet being clogged by screenwash!

And yes, for warranty VW screenwash has to be used.

I do use VW screenwash myself...

Wooh there

You were using 4 of screenwash to 1 water

1 screenwash to 4 water is the summer dilution ratio.

I think 1 screenwash to 2 water will protect down to -16 so I don't think you've an issue.

Read the bottle, thats what mine said 4 water one concentrate for summer, going down the list it gets to one water and 4 concentrate for winter to protect down as low as minus 40 or 50 i beleive.

Maybe I should start using it... Haha!

I'm not sure that any cars would sucessfully operate at -40C > -50C - I've never seen temperature levels like that quoted on any car windscreen washer additives, going down to -20C should be OOT for UK and most of mainland Europe.

I too just put it in straight

Isnt undiluted screenwash bad for paintwork?

Warning on the last bottle I used in the works mondy clearly said to wash off undiluted liquid immediatly with water if it comes into contact with paintwork.

Erm I've posted on another thread about this,

IIRC Neat is -70, 1 to 1 is -40, 1 to 2 water is -35....

I had a bottle in front of me at the time.

No VAG screenwash.....

Although that would explain the shocking headache this morning and the fact that I am now unable to see

cheezemonki you might want to look at which bottle you have the white bottles only work down to -40 whilst the grey ones work done to -70 and the latest ones (not the ones i got at start of summer) do have a new concentrate level. so by putting in 4 bottles to one of water is still more than enough as when it comes out onto the screen it leaves a thick screenwash residue around the edge of the window and the roof which isnt good for the paintwork, however my formula works fine.

My bottles are white (I have a crate of them) and on the front of the bottle quite clearly state -70.

The diagrams on the back say that -70 is when used neat and so on.

I use halfords ready mixed, blue one.

No problems yet.

I bought a case of VAG stuff from my local independant for £19. Thats £1.90 a bottle.

For the money I see little point in buying anything else... and I love the smell! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Any VAG dealers in or around the St Helens (Merseyside) area? the nearest Skoda delaer I know of is an hours drive away and I'm a bit loath to do a 2 hour trip just for a bottle of screenwash! :P

I have used wash up liquid for the last year with no problems other than it freezing in very cold weather.

Word of warning my fabia every time it froze the pipes came off and rear ww did not squirt, make sure your antifreeze ww is correct strength it is a real pain having to do the pipes every single time it freezes

Sonax blue lidded bottle stuff says on the front "safe for fanjets".

I saw this last night.
