How to get a clean USB memory...

Featured Replies

"What's this" asked SWMBO when she emptied the washing machine the other night.

It was a 2 GB USB stick that I'd forgotten in the breast pocket of one of my shirts. Well, nothing important on it, just slightly annoying since I just had bought it.

Without any expectations I put it on my desk to dry over night before testing it, and guess what?

It still works!

So a full cycle (40 centigrades) is maybe nothing to recommend but not necessarily a catastrophe either. I'm baffled.

Cool... very lucky there.

Its weird sometimes things nacker up when subjected to things like this and sometimes they dont... i once dropped a phone in the river and dried it out on the radiator overnight.... no problems!

If something electronic gets wet, it isn't necessarily death for it. Pop it into a warm place (airing cupboard, next to boiler or over radiator) to dry it out (could take a few days) and they will often spring back to life when switched on again :)

It depends on a number of factors (like the chemicals in the water) and the type of hardware... IE nokia mobiles when submerged, the battery dies (as expected) and the backlight dies because of the corrosion... its fairly easy to get these things sorted.

ive had a old MP3 player go through the wash before, and although the wash destroyed the earphones, the MP3 player still worked!

Wife was very low on blood sugar one morning. She put the kettle on for a brew as is customary, switched on the glucose meter (ditto), and then proceeded to drown the glucose meter with boiling water.

Wouldn't work.

She went and bought another.

Meanwhile, I put the drowned wretch on the radiator. 2 days later it was working fine

I dropped my Nokia down the freshly filled toilet ( only wee:D ), and after I had rinsed it off and hairdriered it it worked, and still does some months later.
