no power to radio

Featured Replies

Hello There

Just replaced my car radio (octavia vrs mk1) pretty straight forward, removed the old unit connected the new unit (sony mex bt5000with bluetooth etc) it worked fine turned on and off with the ignition

unplugged it put in the new cage pushed the new radio in very tight fit ,turned on ,no power removed plugged the old unit back in ,still no power ,checked the fuse box all appear ok ,is there another fuse somewhere maybe for the permanent live ?thanks in advance

got the radio from argos ,by the way half price £125 abargain

Hi have you tried reconnecting the original radio without replacing it in its holder?

If it still works ,then the new radio is at fault . There sometimes is a small fuse fitted inside the radio. I would not open it up because of the warrantee . Take it back for a replacement. You can buy a cheap multimeter (about £5),which is useful for finding, and checking for 12 volts.

thanks for the reply ,tried replugging the old unit back in no luck dead as well.just going thru everything with tester lokking for live feeds

The radio has 2 power feeds, I gues that after you put the cage in and put the radio back, you trapped one of the supply feeds between the cage and HU which has stripped the sleaving and caused a short circuit/fuse to blow.

A tip for getting all the wiring behind the HU to fit easily is to remove the glovebox (being carefull with the glovebox light wiring). This will allow you to manipulate the wires behind the HU as you push it back.

you didnt pull the wires out hard did you? just wondering if you have fractered the power lead. other than that have you tried the other power lead or made sure the power on lead that goes on when you turn the car on it connected to the same one on the new radio??
