Coilovers or Eibachs? pics inside

Featured Replies

Had a bit of a brain wave and im now considering coilovers over the eibachs as im unsure if the 25mm drop will be enough with 17's, only problem is i have already bought the eibachs but havent fitted them as of yet, so ive done a little photoshopping to compare both

what do you think?

Depends why you're uprating the suspension but bear in mind the coilovers will be much stiffer than the Eibachs so will be far less comfortable over normal quality roads. Also bear in mind that if you're dropping the car more than 25mm you'll also want to budget for the alloy sump guard if you haven't got one already :D

Yeah i kindov thought that /\ im really doing it for the looks and any performance increase is just a bonus, would really love the fabia to feel more 'planted' as its a pretty horrible handling car

This is coiled low in reality. :D Since been raised up due to rubbing issues....

Back on standard now though - may be keeping them that way too.

out of interest, how much does an alloy sump guard cost?

Alot as they done exist!

I have been trying to make some in the last few months, but i aint quite satisfied with the mounting system were using atm.

Jasc1988,

I dont think you will get the rear as low as the photoshopped pics without major rubbing issues, which will just get worse when you add passengers and boot load in.

If you want the front that low, then you must get a sump guard. Alloy ones do exist, josh_pologti did a group buy for ones that fitted the fabia. The original now closed group buy thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/group-buys-promotions/fabia-vrs-alloy-sump-protector-group-buy/30784/ . Just to show they do exist.

The are only 7" wide alloys though even if i roll the arches?

Think im going with the eibachs but the lowness of the coilovers looks amazing:eek:

Yup they do, but after seeing how they are mounted I would never fit one of that design to my car.

The t20 screws that are orginally designed to hold a light plastic cover in place are just not strong enough to hold up 3mm+ of alloy sump guard :D

Just read the thread and thought I would post some comments.

I have Weitec coilovers fitted on my VRS, have been fitted for about 15K miles now and i have not had any problems with sump gaurd hitting the ground at all. Admittedly it does catch on some speed bumps and lightly scrapes along them soemtimes, but other than that its been fine. I am however, running on 18" wheels with strecthed tyres (slightly) and it is as low as I can get it, so if you were to lower it as much as mine on 17's then you would really need to be careful.

Thw Weitec coilovers are excellent in terms of quality, ride and price. I haven't found them to be uncomfortable in any aspects over rough roads or smooth.

A pic of how low my car is on 18's, with 8" wide wheels running Porsche PCD adaptors of 25mm front and 30mm rear widths.

These are just my opinions, people's other views may differ but IMO if you are running 7" wide wheels at the correct offset then even if the car is as lowas mine you will not get rubbing on the arches. The sump is another issue though mate.

Hope this helps..

Omg i want your car, would love to buy your 18" ultralegs but cant afford them, think its going to have to be the eibachs for now

The FULL Eibach set up is a good bit of kit, very good value for money although a lot of people prefer Koni FSD shocks.

I had the full Eibach and RARB setup and the handling was simple brilliant, grippy, very little roll, well balanced and the ride wasn't bad either. It even looked good in the corners ;)

Ahh everytime I see that picture Decron it makes me all warm and aroused inside. Nothing better then the cute little Furby cocking its wheel. :)

I bought my fabia with eibachs but I wanted the low as **** look so I got FK coilovers for it, mines is slammed at the front on 17's, the back isn't slammed cos I just had to do a long journey with a full car, but I was surprised to find that the arches at the back never once scrubbed!!!!

So soon enough mines is gettin lowered more at the back

I personally think the arches at the back are quite big and wide so u shouldnt have any bother with rubbing.

Heres some pics of mine

If your wanting the really low look and your not bothered about comfort then defo get the coilovers!!!!! u wont be disappointed!!

P.S. an LCR spitter helps the look as well:)

What are GMax coilovers like?

I can get a set for £350, but they look like cat meat!

May spend more.

Also, who does front ARB's?

Dave

In answer to the original question, lowered every time for me and not coilovers - IMHO it is just starting to go borderline "pimped".

Love the front splitter on both cars!:cool:

I had a trip in a mates Golf with Gmax coilovers and wasn't impressed, very hard ride and they seized up pretty quickly. I'll be going for Weitec or KW's when I drop mine.
