Remapped VRS, struggling to put the power down?

Featured Replies

Right all i seem to be seeing is that yellow hazard flashing on the dash telling me my wheels are spinning and im losing traction?! really annoying, basically my VRS is useless in first and second gear, first doesnt really bother me as i would expect it but i wouldnt mind being able to put the power down in second gear:rofl:, all the car seems to do is spin.

My VRS has been remapped to 180bhp also, tires seem okay, im running New(ish) Falken ZE512's on the front (205/40/17) Octy mk1 alloys.

Anybody else have this problem?? or is it because i have so much power in a front wheel drive car??:thumbdwn:

Think grippier tyres would probably help, but bear in mind it's cold at the moment so a lot of the "summer" tyres will not perform as well at this time of year. Have you got your Eibachs on yet - these may help too as the Fabia tends to pitch a lot under acceleration which shifts the weight away from the front of the car.

mines the same m8 and im running same bhp, its more the amount of tourque the car has than the BHP that spins the wheels if im informed right, if its out like mine i got 320ft of tourqe, i find easin on the power in second instead of just floorin it helps

Same here - I use the same technique as Richard - ease it in in second and get it into third and then fourth asap :)

turn traction control off - it cuts in too early, i only have it on if the roads are damp/wet

Turning the traction control off makes it worse, if you have the ASR set to OFF it will just spin on the spot in 2nd, yeah my car is pushing over 300 lb/ft also, just a pain in the **** having to wait to 3rd gear, and the eibachs aren't on yet thats happening next week i believe, wonder if 215 tires would make any improvement but its pretty crap at the mo :thumbdwn:

My standard 140BHP TDi octy also does it in 1st and 2nd, and its not remapped. I am just a bit more carefull with the throttle.

Once the Eibachs are on you should see some improvement as the front wheels will have more weight over them under acceleration. I doubt you'll see any difference in 215's though - best to get a set of road-legal slicks ;)

You're running over 300lb/ft through the front tyres and you're complaining about a lack of traction, especially given the time of year?

yes, lol, need 4wd

I've found WOT usage in ~3rd gear pointless outside of the summer months.

Personally, I don't drive all that quickly when the nights drawn in as there's far too many variables, and I don't enjoy it.

Drive safe. :)

Maffu, I hear you buddy! Caution is needed

mines is the same mate. I'm getting around the same power and torque as u and i've got falken tyreson 17's as well

easing the power in is really the only option IMO. it wont be so bad when the better weather comes in:)

/\ heres hoping

I'm not struggling too bad now. ;) But it's amazing what difference a limited slip diff / ATB really makes, even in a straight line.

use the advanced throttle control system i.e. your right foot!

you all know its not going to get the power down in the first two (or three on greasy road) gears, so why bother hoofing it in those gears.

the ASR isnt as effective as it could be, but it stops the revs flaring and bouncing off the limiter, which would effectively mean the car is out of control for a second or two until the RPMS drop to allow the wheels to get traction (the engine bits are heavy so its got alot of momentum to kill)

^ what he said

SWMBO's Fiesta Zetec can be floored in 2nd gear without any problems. Yet still i prefer driving the fabia

I think it's all part and parcel of owning a 'powerful' car.

Do you suffer from wheel hop as well as spin? The Jabba dogbone mount has given me a lot more traction as the wheels seem less able to let go of the road.

would that be the repeated banging sound you sometimes get whilst losing grip?

Yup, that's it.

/\ in that case yes, it musnt spin it must hop!!

Greasy roads this time of year

Eat more beef.

Get more weight over the front wheels

:sofahide:

:offtopic:

Remap in the winter then complain about lack of traction LOL

Does the traction control system on Fabias actually work ? I've tried both on and off in wet, dry and ice and it makes no difference I can detect.
