Remapped VRS, struggling to put the power down?

Featured Replies

 This thread is funny.

I wonder if the mustang owners club get the same problems ;)

"supercharged mustang, struggling to put power down" i can just see it now

:sofahide:

Does the traction control system on Fabias actually work ?

Depends what you mean by work. ASR cuts engine power when it detects slip in the front wheels and it's pretty evident when it's working...

Chris

I have to really hammer the front tyres to make the ASR kick in. It's actually quite slack most of the time. But then my car is running standard power.....

I imagine a lot of problems come from the nature of the remap. Ones with a savage lump of torque low in the revs I imagine are the hardest to handle. Progressive ones that feed in the power through the rev ranger will be easier. A switchable Star map is quite brutal isn't it? With 180bhp I'd have thought so......

No genric map will produce over 300lbft or over 170bhp. Its just not possible.

even the custom jabba ones ive seen only make about 180bhp on a proper rolling road ;)

I dont see what the problem is here???? Its a tourquey FWD car, the laws of physics says it will wheel spin if you plant your foot.

If i planted my foot in mine, it will spin in 1st 2nd and into 3rd, pointless excercise TBH.

Like someone has already said feed the power in in 1st and 2nd and use the top end grunt from the star map, you should be able to feel it pull right up the redline, this is the fastest way to travel in slippy conditions :D

Always thought yours was whacking out well in excess of 300bhp??? :D

I'm sure this has been said many times before, there's a difference between making fast progess (driving the car properly) and simply being a nutter with loads of wheelspin.

In the current weather conditions, stating that your front wheels are just scrabbling all over the place means you have not compensated for the state of the roads by adjusting what you do with the noisy pedal. I've had to alter the way I take corners, especially since fitting the RARB as the roads don't have the grip required to simply fling the car around.

I wish

Totally agree, Although i have been known to do the odd wheel spin, but thats just cos i am lazy and hit the loud peddle and hope for the best :D

the roads were so greesy today my car span up in 3rd  gear at about 45-50mph when i was passing a car

use the advanced throttle control system i.e. your right foot!

you all know its not going to get the power down in the first two (or three on greasy road) gears, so why bother hoofing it in those gears.

Which begs the question, why pay for the extra power if you can't use it all?!

You can use it, just not as much in the wet :D

As per John, perhaps wait for it to dry? Summers always a good time too as it tends to be dry more often.

Failing that, if it's wet don't plant it in 1st and 2nd?

No need to jump to such an extreme simply because people can't learn to adjust their driving style in less than ideal weather conditions.

My AMD one click generic did. It hit 171bhp and 302lbft verified on two sets of rollers.

My custom map made less because I wanted a drivable car and also one that didn't eat it's own clutch. Either the OP's map is a bit vicious (And it would be if he is getting 180 out of just a remap) and/or those tyres are crap (Which might be down to the weather but IMHO those Falkens don't have a fantastic reputation. They are alright for the money but you have to pay more if you want the performance)

What did your custom map produce to make it a bit less vicious?

I stand corrected :( Ill go back and finish my egr pipe :D

I only said that as ive had 4 different maps made for me, the first was very vicious, the second only produced about 155bhp and 270lbft the third was vicious again, was fun while it lasted but then the clutch ate itself. But even the most vicious dint break the 300lbft marker.

The one i have now is spot on and is 170bhp and 290lbft verified on awesomes rollers.

Will go for a proper rolling road one when i get my new turbo on :D

There was a Pirelli ad years ago that had the motto :- "Power is nothing without control".

How true.

Right all i seem to be seeing is that yellow hazard flashing on the dash telling me my wheels are spinning and im losing traction?! really annoying, basically my VRS is useless in first and second gear, first doesnt really bother me as i would expect it but i wouldnt mind being able to put the power down in second gear:rofl:, all the car seems to do is spin.

My VRS has been remapped to 180bhp also, tires seem okay, im running New(ish) Falken ZE512's on the front (205/40/17) Octy mk1 alloys.

Anybody else have this problem?? or is it because i have so much power in a front wheel drive car??:thumbdwn:

Falken 512's are not grippy, they are hard tires that go up against things like the Michelin HX MXM and the other long life low wear tyres.

Long life means harder, which means less grip.

Could try getting FK452's on the car or maybe some verdistein Wintrac's since it's winter . The other thing is is it really cold/damp or any ice etc and have you let the 512's scrub in yet as my 452 slipped like anything for the first few hundred miles.

as has allready been said get an lsd, jabba can supply ad fit one for £1090,then you will get the lot down:thumbup:
