Should I remove my remap?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of trading in my Fabia vRS, which has been remapped to about 170 bhp by APS in Brackley. It's been a fantastic car and has given me no problems at all since I've had it from new and just done 80K in it, but I'd like something a bit bigger. Would it be better to remove the remap (and Briskoda stickers) before trading it in? I'm pretty sure that they'll think it's been thrashed (which it hasn't) if I turn up with a modified car. Any advice? Has anybody traded in a remapped car at a Skoda dealer?

Could anybody give me a ballpark figure for the trade-in value for a Furby vRS on a 54 plate with 80K, full service history, kept in mint condition.

Cheers!

Why waste it?

Let the new owner enjoy it, but let them know for the insurance :)

Skoda do indeed sell remapped cars. I test drove one and the sales guy got quite excited over it too. The ride height was also significantly lower than the rest of the Fabia vRS's, so they have no problems selling modified cars. I'm pretty sure they added a few quid to the price as well.

Perhaps go to a different dealer than you intend to finally deal with - see what they say about the remap. If it is to the negative then you could always remove the map and go to the dealer you 1st had in mind.

FWIW - as a buyer I'd prefer to know it had been remapped, decide then whether it had been thrashed or not, rather than discover later.

Why dont you sell it on here privately?

Ive seen a few mapped cars at my local dealer

i bought my VRS from the dealers as a 'standard' VRS, turns out it was fitted with a PD160 intake green cotton panel filter and had a switchable remap to 180bhp from star performance, result! :)

do you pay for these opional extras?

no the dealer never knew anything was on the car..

he got it in 2 days previous and hadnt had a look at it fully, he said it didnt have c/c or heated seats, just a plain old VRS, i turned up it had heated seats and c/c - mint!! and i had already put a deposit on it over the phone so he was quite gutted i think.

I knew it had all the stuff on it though as it was listed on Ebay the week previously but never sold then the owner traded it in.

So i got a

I tried with great difficulty to sell my octy vRS with remap. The local skoda dealer did not want to know, because he would be unable to sell it with a warranty as he could not get anyone to cover it.

The remap will add nothing to any trade in price, same with other mods. However it may help the dealer add to the price when sold, assuming you can find a dealer to take it.

Traded mine in last year for a MKII Vrs, took all mods off car, Eibachs, PD160 intake, Green Filter etc etc, but left the map on.........but the Furby will be out of warranty by now...

There are some bargains around.

I got an 04 vrs yellow, 190 bhp, full leather,xenons,c/c,cruise,17" prosport wheels, jabba arb,"nice wood stick on trim",dab, sat nav, nice coat rack for the back of the drivers chair, 312 brakes,pre-heater and helix clutch and smf,pd160 + green filter and few more bits for £4500 as a trade in at my garage . What a bargain AND I LOVE IT !!!!

Of course you should remove the map if you sell it - nobody in their right mind would buy a remapped car second hand*!

As a rule of thumb you can knock at least 100% the cost of the mod off the cars book value to see what a brilliant addition mods are in selling a used car. Modified = Thrashed in the buyers mind. Get it flashed back to standard & deny all knowledge

*Awaits flaming from people who did

Fully agree - take it off and throw the receipt of it in the bin and the buyer will be none the wiser. Leave i on and the potential private buyer market will be significantly reduced as modified cars are very niche and mainstream will just look at a different unthrashed example as there are plenty about so why buy one that may have issues in the future & in your ownership. If its running fine now thats no indication of how it might be down the line.

Personally when i bought my VRS i wanted a map by a reputable company already on the car! so all depends on the buyer in my opinion.

Are you havng a giraffe???

SOmeone accepted an offer of £4500 part ex? were they brain dead by any chance? Maybe it was one of those nigirian sellers who only want "four thousand england pounds" for a car that was listed by someone else in a previous week

vRS's are ten a penny at the Auctions many were on PCP's/fleet cars and now coming to and end they dump them into Auctions.

If you see a dealer selling a car sticker price £6000 they will have bought it for £4000 maybe less.

Always go in and offer 20% under the window price... :D

They are very cheap as trade, even with fsh and privately owned.

Bit of a bargain at the mo!
