5 Piece Silicone Hose kit for VAG 1.8 T 180hp engines

Featured Replies

I'm SEMI tempted to fit one of these "kits"....

A) Would I have to tell the insurers (surely not as no bhp increase)

B) Are they worth fitting?

C) I'm guessing every turbo pipe is covered in this kit?

Cheers

btw... tell me it's not worth doing so I save my money ;)

ok....Its not worth doing

But it would look nice.

You have a point Rob....

Anyone fancy answering my questions? :P

if they're good quality then you will never need to replace the hoses unless they rub against anything.

If they're cheap then why not? saves for any future possible boost leaks.

I would advise insurers, but they will likely tell you they arent interested as its not a power increasing modification.

I dont know if all the hoses are covered.

What sort of price are these kits?

my insurer kicks off if i open the bonnet let alone modifying the engine bay

So what happens if my oem failed and I replaced them with these?

They don't add any bhp...

Change insurer LOL

i will be next year

im just driving carefully til then lol

as for if the oem failed your insurer would like you to replace it with oem. tbh if your gonna get them id get them in black so they cant tell the difference

But it would look nice.

They do look nice. Here's mine BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community

Regarding the Insurance, I work very closely with motor insurers as part of my job. I can tell you first hand, if they can find a reason not to pay out, they most certainly will. They are very good at taking your money, but absolutely hate paying it back. My advice is always inform them of ANY changes. Hopefully, it wont change your premium. Even if they say it will not effect it, get this in writing. Verbal is not enough. When you come to want to make a claim and they refuse it, simply saying "one of your guys said it wont make a difference" will fall on deaf ears :finger:

Unfortunately, most Insurance companies are classed as necessary evils

surely this insurance and car modification stuff is just paranoia.

on the phone they say "to your knowledge has the vehicle been modified in any way?" you say "not to my knowledge". simple.

if you bought a second hand car and it had black silicone hoses on it you probably wouldnt notice. are you telling me the insurer wouldnt pay out if you crashed? they bloody would. you have several legs to stand on.

i wrote off my 1st car and it was far from standard. alloys, weber carb, k&n, stainless exhaust etc and they paid out no problemo.

the car is defined by whats on the logbook surely. if its standard on there. its standard.

There is no prevision for a GT30 turbo modification to your log book

I too wrote a car off. The accident was not my fault. A chap was sat in his car on my side of the road just around a blind bend, in the dark, with his lights on full beam (honest, it sounds unreal, but the idiot really did). I went into him head on. He said that he was on the correct side of the road, with side lights and hazards on (bull $h1t) and counter claimed against me for the full cost of his car, 1 week off work, new clothes, etc. My insurance company at the time noted that I had not (yet) informed them of 3 points I got on my license about 1 month earlier. They therefore voided my insurance, and pointed the 3rd parties insurer at my door! The arguing went on for 1 year until my witness (who at the time did not want to come forward as he was the neighbor of the 3rd party) came forward and wrote to the court with a statement. The case was thrown out. I still had to pay for my own car though.

ok i fully understand why your careful with mods now! that must have been a horrible experience mate.

point taken.

that must have been a horrible experience mate.

Sure was. Although it was quite a while ago, things have not (IMO) got better, they got worse. I was poorly paid and almost homeless (left home with no return possible, and splitting up with girlfriend). I was getting letters almost daily direct from a major insurance company and also from their solicitor with many frightening words and threats. This went on for very nearly 1 year. It wasn't until I visited the witness (elderly pensioner) and showed him a box full of letters stating that I was in the wrong, not the 3rd party, that he came forward just in time days before a court case (which I had to get legal aid for). All this because my Insurance company found a quick and easy way out :finger: I had many, many, many sleepless nights over this, and will never forget those days. I unfortunately now tar all insurance companies with the same brush.

if it is not putting you on the spot; care to name this insurance company? I don't think I would want to be insured by them, if I had the knowledge

Regards

Ethos , go on get them you know you want to.

I purchased the a 5 piece kit for my motor.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia-i/new-goodies-fitted/97483/

If the kit you are looking at is the same kit as mine then only 3 hoses will fit the Skoda Octavia VRS. The large intercooler to throttle manifold, the rear Turbo pipe to Dump valve and the small pipe to the N75 valve.

cheers

Mark.

Let's just say it was "The Man From The ???"

As I said though, this experience was quite a number of years ago now - don't want a slander lawsuit or anything :)

Heard a bit of a whistle from what seemed to be the intercooler to throttle body side last night, not sure if it's a leak or just the trubo but seems like it's coming from the right side of the engine under boost.

Are these hoses hard to replace? Think me and my buddie will tackle it one weekend if I order some.

Whistle? my turbo whistle is quite loud. There should be more of a hiss when you have a leak, usually. I take it you havent got the silicone hoses on then Ethos?

Nope, I'm still debating buying them to be honest.

Maybe it isn't a leak then, just thought that it might be the surging at max psi when lifting off.

Who knows!

I wish there was another vRS close by to compare the noise with :P. I sooo don't know enough about turbo cars!

Guys give up the worrying I spent the 1st year of owership worrying about things. And nothing was ever wrong, now I just drive it and if anything goes wrong then worry. You should be able to hear the whistle of your turbo and as you say hissing when something is leaking.

You pair need to relax more and not worry so much. It's much easier on your constitution.

That said I can relate to how you feel

My car is great now fatty thanks and iam loving her to bits:D

I think its just a pain for some when you spend so much money on a remap and it just doesnt quite go perfect.
