Could this be the problem 17705

Featured Replies

This pipe? Is it my 17705 problem?

I have been doing a lot of looking/reading/making calls

Mark at Awesome made a suggestion to check this pipe :)

It's should be hard/stiff ish but mine is very very soft and on the back it's has almost like a crease in it (Like it's been collapsed)

He thinks it could be my problem as when I start the car each morning the pipe probably collapses and is flat

The engine cover is off and I'll be looking at it in the morning when I get someone to start my car

It would be interesting for others with the 17705 problem to check this pipe and see if it's soft ;)

Looks as though the blue pipe has been rubbing against something.

Forge engine cover (But it's fine)

like yourself i have a recurring 17705 fault. i checked some of my pipes last week and the same pipe on mine is really soft and can be pushed together easily.

i'm interested to see if this could be the problem. any idea how much a replacement pipe is?

cheers,

Shaun.

Which pipe has collapsed? I can't really tell from the pic.

the 'y' shaped one, coming from the rocker cover.

I think they said about £35?

I'm going to stand in front of the car in the morning and see if the pipe folds

Yes the Y shaped pipe about 3" long on the right hand side under the engine cover!

Oh right, that's just a breather pipe though, isn't it? Wouldn't have thought it would make much difference?

I have no idea

DE 06A 103 221 A is what's on the pipe!

I got mine replaced just after buying my car, it had rotten through and gave off exhausty like fumes into the car, giving me a constant headache!

Pretty sure it's a breather pipe, there's another threas going about it at the moment.

If I remember he said it was part of the oil breather system and the pipe is soft because it has corroded on the inside causing it to collapse on cold start!

Yeah, mine had rotten through completely, it was falling apart as I prodded. It's okay, skoda fixed it by wrapping a bit of insulation tape around it...

Did the car run bad?

Did you have any fault codes?

haven't got VAGCOM, so no idea on the fault codes. To be honest I didn't really have any problem with the car other than the smell, so I didn't really notice any difference when it was eventually replaced. I had hoped it would help with the cold running issues but it didn't!

Yep, thats a breather pipe.

The pipe has been revised twice since that part number, the current part number is: 06A 103 221 BR

Hopefully this helps in getting a replacement, should be around £15-20

Ok thanks for that ;)

Looks like my 17705 is still going to be here for a while

Hi Fezboy,

Have you got any update on the 17705 problem because I've just done a quick scan on my 1.8T and it's come up with the same code. Now I know I have the fault code it's occurred to me that the car has lost pressure sometimes, but wasn't enough for me to have noticed until now, and that's only because I now know there's a fault.

There's no EML or anything. Any more advice appreciated

My fault was caused by a poor remap :thumbdwn:

Advise.........search for 17705 and then start reading for a few days

There are a few pipes you can change which are cheap to start with ;)

This should keep you going for a while!

Phew!!! After wasting hours of my company's time :D, I'm still utterly . Some things worked for some people and others things for other people.

So it's either a new N75 (or a Race N75J), or new plugs, or new breather hose, or new MAF, or new DV, or completely clean and coat all connectors with electrical silicone grease, or get another remap, or … and the list goes on ...

One thing that did arise from all this investigation were rather worrying reports about Jabba remaps. I was all set to book mine in for next month but I'm unsure now. I deffo want to boost the car up to what I think it should be (at least 200 bhp) but don't want to have to replace everything to get it to work properly, and have no after-care service. Is there a definitive list of reliable, reputable remappers in the M25 area? Where are Impossible based? The other side of the coin is that a lot of people have been to Jabba and been more than happy with the results. It's a tricky one …:(
