Featured Replies

looking at getting a vrs and all i hear is they are full of problems. is this true and are they as bad as i have heard, i love the car looks wise etc but dont want a problem car.

any advice please

You have to remember that on a car forum, a lot of people will be looking for answers to problems so it might taint your opinion. Yes, there are problems, but not all cars suffer from them and the solutions tend to be well documented on here.

As always, buying is a gamble and knowing the common problems should help you know what to look for when you test drive cars :D

Chris

I got mine and have had NO problems with it

(Well I do have a fault code but am working on that )

Oh is this Fabia or Octy?

Just make sure it's got good service history and camblet has been done 60K/4 years

Make sure there are no creaking from the front if you do a test drive (Arb/bushes)

The Skoda cars and not as bad as people say (They are probably just being badgeists  )

I brought an S3 and within 2 months had loads of problems with Arb/Bushes/Top Mounts.........I only keep it 6 months

its an oct, i just love the looks. whats the major things to look for when buying. not getting a high millage.

Keep it standard, best way for having trouble free ownership, always warm it up and cool down before using it in anger.

If this is an Octavia vRS you are looking at I can honestly say that in nearly 2 years I have had no issues with mine.

You need to look for a clean one that isn't owned by someone that looks like they may have thrashed it to death since they have owned it.

Ask them about their driving technique and what their experiances are. If they talk about warming the car up and letting the turbo spin down and generally caring for the car then it should all be OK.

There are known faults with the engine but largely these are easy to sort out.

If you would consider VW, Audi, Seat etc etc... reliable, then you should be OK with Skoda. The vRS engine i exactly the same in the Audi TT, Seat Leon Cupra, VW Golf GTI mkIV etc etc! These are all considered reliable and good cars. The Skoda is NO exception. Buy one and enjoy it!

I have read the original post properly now and see that it IS a vRS you are looking at. Also there are lots of people on here with high mileage cars and providing that they are looked after then you should be OK. If the car has no recent dealer service history this isn't a real problem as there are plenty of VAG specialists around. Check the service stamps and then check that the servicing garage knows about these cars and are a specialist.

brill thanks for the help guys. its made my mind up am after one in a couple of months.

anymore advice will be great on anything i should look out for

Mine was rock solid. Any problems I had were driver induced. Personally I think the vRS is the best 1.8T (180bhp) engined car in the whole VAG range.

Another good idea would be to get someone with Vag-Com to go along with you ;)

You can test the car for any fault codes!

I've owned mine from new - 3 1/2 years and 68000km and I have had no problems apart from an annyoying ticking that's recently started in the aircon. Working on that one!!

Well I am on my second one!! I got rid of my first one after almost 3 years trouble free motoring. I have got another one 51 plate and it's great!!! hth!!! Oh yes full history is a must!!!
