im getting the vrs custom-coded

Don't forget to tell your insurer.

People forget the overall cost of a remap has to include this. :)

Enquired of my insurer, RAC, what premium for a remap by any of the major players - Jabba, Angel, Celtic..... etc - for my standard Fabia vRS.

Answer: "we would not insure you with a remap modification".

Both named drivers have; no claims in last 10 years; only two minor shunts and two speeding offences(none of which is current) in 80 years combined driving, yet this is the answer. No wonder so many just don't bother informing their insurer if this is the likely response. This is not an option for me, so I'll just have to find a company who do want my business as and when I go ahead with the remap.

Tells you more about the insurer than the drivers you describe Ming, IMO. I often think it's more about ignorance over what you're asking about, and what's involved, rather than anything.

Try some of the more 'open minded' ones next time round

Also, make sure they know what a 'remap' is. When I spoke to Admiral (Indian call centre), they initially said they wouldn't do it, however after I checked online I found that they class it as an 'engine chip' - this they would insure.

Good point, thank you. I'll run that past them tomorrow.

Hi again, Steve

When renewal comes around I'll try the likes of Flux and Knott for comparison.

Good point about ignorance, as both yourself and JMC mention.

Try explaining what a rear anti-roll bar is!

I lost count of the number of times when I rang my insurers and gave up, trying to explain....

Sounds like you're on the right track for next time though Ming

Best thing I found was to get a quote online, which in most cases will list all of the modifications they recognise. That way you can give it the 'correct' name when adding it to your policy.
