Tyre wear on the inside edge! all 4 wheels!

Featured Replies

Hi

When I recently replaced the front tyres it was noticed how they had worn excessively on the inside! .. When I inspected the rear tyres they too had worn more on the inside edge !

I've a full wheel re-alignment so hopefully this will cure the problem.

Anyone notice inside tyre wear on their Octavia?

Cheers

SWMBOs PD was dire for it from new. We've just had it put on a laser wheel alignment doohicky (one of my customers has just installed one and we were playing) and they were miles out - all round.

Rear Tyre Inside wear has been brought up a number of times, it was due to Camber setting IIRC .

We had this problem but it eventually got sorted after a full laser alignment.

Jacko

down here i always get my cars done by a company called "elite" in rainham, essex.

to prove how good they are. my cars dropped 60mm on the front and 40mm on the back. ive just had to replace my tyres on the front as they were just legal (ish). but the wear across the tread was totally even. the tyre guy even said he's never seen a car so low wear a tyre so evenly before :)

Yes Charles - had same problem/s here as of last week when replacing with the Toyo Proxes 4.

All geometry alignments checked and rectified, now the car has totally rubbish handling.

Previously supplied (from new) Dunlop sp01's and the rears were practically bold on the inside 1st inch of the tread with 4mm over rest of tyre/s. Skoda and my dealer said i should have checked alignment within '3' months of me driving car out of the garage! Who in their right mind expects to take a brand new car straight into a tyre dealer for wheel alignment from new -

Can someone tell me if we're supposed to be running with adverse cambers etc to give our cars the driving characteristics that we're used to, or am i going completely bonkers:eek:

Had wheel alignment checked today for the following values:

Rear Camber Values for Vrs.

Due to a number of complaints regarding rear tyre noise and wear on Octavia A5 vehicles, the rear camber values can be changed to the following settings -

Old values are: -1°45' ± 30'

New values are: -1°20' ± 30'

This information applies to Standard and Sport suspension.

................ and all is as it says above - so why is my car handling like a jelly mould?

Is it the Toyo Proxes 4 sidewall's or something else. Cannot fathom this out.

Albeit, TOYO are on the case and very willing to help.

May end up changing to the Toyo T1-r's as they are tried and tested or does anyone think i need to return to the original Dunlop's??

** HELP **

Do the ones you have come with a re-inforced sidewall John?

Whats the pressures set at?

Hi Stu - Yes, the tyrewalls are reinforced and one of the Toyo director's is being most helpful with trying to resolve this issue for me. Has already agreed that if the problem persists that he will personally arrange an alternative. Will let you know end of week when this has been resolved (hopefully :()

Whats the pressures set at?

The tyre pressures have been checked 3x now since the Proxes4 were applied and each time they have been set to : 2.1bar - fronts 2.2 bar - rear.

I do believe personally that the Proxes4 are not of equal to the spec required for the Vrs of the sidewall and that this is probably the main cause of the car 'skipping' like, across the road - especially when under accelleration/overtaking. Seems very (and i mean VERY) susceptible to cross-winds as we are all enduring at the moment.

Never had any serious drivability problems with sidewinds when the Dunlops were on the car.

Time will tell - update you all when i find out more.............

Cheers and thanks......John.

At least you are getting some decent support from them.

I too will be looking at new rubber very soon :( Have done over 20K on mine and want something decent.......
