Question reg OctaviRS.com FAQ.

Featured Replies

I was surfing at octaviaRS.com the other day and went through the FAQ. In the climatronic section it says:

1. What are all the channels for

Known Channels are

16 - Speed in KMH

2. How Do I Gain Access to the Climatronic Diagnostic Display

Press the following Keys at the same time: Fan Down + Cold + Econ. Press Red and Blue to display alternative channels, press Econ to exit Diag mode

I managed to get to what is described in no 2, however it only goes up to 09 and frankly I can't say I see much in it. Is there something I'm missing here?

There are it seems 2 diagnostics modes on the climatronic.

One is

fan down + cold + econ , the other

fan up + cold + econ.

One only goes upto 09 as you found. the other goes much higher.

As you may know I look after octaviars.com . I will check the FAQ question and update if necessary.

Oh and btw, isn't ch01 then the current interior temp? As for ch16 being kph, well it seems to be quite a bit off the speedo :(

Ch 16 can indicate kph or mph, depending on whether temperature is set to display in

I get similar GPS readings, was a bit worried that my GPS unit was knackered but

I figured a speedo would be less accurate.

Don't have climatronic so I can't do the three-gauge test. Does the Ch16 reading and the speedo

work from the same "sensor", with only different representations?

Rob.

My speedo is up roughly 3 mph at 40, 3 at 50, 4 at 60, 5 at 70 against GPS. If you know what extrapolation is I'm sure you can work out some other figures too ;)

Needless to say this also makes the mpg figures inaccurate. My overall average is running at about 34 which equates to 32 using pencil and paper and the distance values from the odometer (which may also be wrong, of course! (but harder to check))

I didn't mention earlier that I have been checking the mileometer against GPS readings on a regular 138 mile journey I make. The difference in readings has been of the order of less than one mile most times, which points to the mileometer being accurate - unlike the speedo.

Aha! Good plan. I'll do the same....

Hm, I don't know, mine says 108kph while the speedo shows 130kph :o

This was not an easy exercise to do on public roads since it requires the use of at least 3 hands and 2 pairs of eyes, plus a tape recorder.
Denis , just what planet are you from , with at least 3 hands and 2 pairs of eyes , it's no wonder you have posted so often , us normal people don't stand a chance :D

Hmmm... I'd always known speedos over-read, but never really thought about the figures. I've been driving around with ch 16 on display all weekend and it's quite an eye-opener.

It brought about this question - which I'm not in a position to test at the moment :D

The quoted top speed for the RS is 146mph. Now, is that 146 on the speedo, in which case a real speed around the 130 mark. Or, is it a true speed of 146, in which case the speedo will be off the scale (160 is the high mark). Anybody know?

It has got to be the true speed. Period.

I would guess its the correct figure , I think one or more of the mags would have commented on it if the car didnt live up to its figures (as one recently did concerning the Astra GSi being able to make 150 mph...to sum up ,'In your dreams'!!) Also , do I not remember someone who had their RS chipped being figured with GPS tracking at over 160 mph?
