Two weeks Fabia ownership. My two major moans

Featured Replies

Loving my car, really really loving it....but....

Why oh why Skoda did you put only even numbers on my Speedo?

Why oh why Skoda did you make the heater controls so small and low down?

Shall still buy a vRS for the wife though :-)

A lot of people seem to complain about the heater controls being low down however I find them quite well positioned as I can change the settings as my hand rests on the gear ****. As regards the even numbers on my speedo, I can't say it ever really bothered me.

Pretty insignificant gripes in fairness though :D

Oh totally, but they got everything else so spot-on....

Bet the new Fabia says 30/50/70 :-)

Bet you haven't checked for leaky rear doors yet? bet you have them too! feel the bottom of the doorcards in the rear and carpet also

My rear doors have been sealed by the previous owner, so I was shocked to find water in my rear footwell. Then I found the culprit. A 2l bottle of tesco still water that I'd not shut very well before putting behind my driver's seat. :o

I agree about the speedo - took me a few weeks to get used to.

I very rarely look at the speedo, years of being a professional driver means i 'know' within 2/3 mph what speed I am doing.Usually the engine noise and rev. counter tell me what I need to know if I am pushing on.

For me the heater controls are probably the best positioned and logical of any car I have owned.

Each to their own I suppose.

Don't find either an issue, in all fairness. If anything on the speedo, it's the re-calibration past 90 that needs most adjustment.

I think you'll get used to it :D

I'd agree. The heater controls are fairly standard VAG position and function, and not bad for it. The ones in our Lupo are nearly identical.

The only thing I really dislike? The fag lighter socket location.

I've never really noticed the heater controls being low, think cos they have been that low down on every car I have had, speedo numbers I don't notice apart from the fact there is no 100mph marker on it it goes from 90 - 110, not that I ever go that fast!

Does anyone actually know why they decided to miss off 100mph on the speedo?

Not sure mate, would be intresting to find out.

100 mph is of significance only on this sceptered isle.

ie :- not significant

The rattle I get from my dash is the most irritating thing for me!

They haven't just "forgotten" 100mph.

At 90mph the speedo changes from 10mph increments to 20mph increments, thus the needle starts moving at half the speed... so it goes 70, 80, 90, 110, 130, 150.

I assume this was done to improve clarity at lower speeds.

I think the non-vRS speedo is different still, with it simply reading 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, hence why you vRS owners don't find the speedo a problem :P

That figures then

Cheers! never really looked at that part of the speedo in any detail, I thought it just went 70, 80, 90, 110, 120, 130 etc.

Agreed. Universally stupid. It's a right hassle powering anything from it, which is the primary use the majority of us must use it for! Will end up hardwiring everything in eventually!

How do you get a Blue Fabia rated at 100bhp?

or should you be in Fabia 2007 forum?

I guess that'll be the ATD coded engine 100bhp ( PD100 ) same as SWMBO has here in her Blue Furby Estate only her one has been remapped to about 140bhp. :D

Thought that was what it was. It's an estate, it's blue, it's a 1.9TDi

It goes fast enough for me whatever it is.

Jasons car was a PD100 when it started out in life.

Annoying things about Fabia VRS:

No cruise/ xenons on flagship model.

Non-colour coded handles

Stupid fag lighter location

Leaky bloody doors

I don't really know why is this, mates, but here in Bulgaria the Fabia vRS (or just RS, how it's called here), comes with xenons as a standard.

A fair few bigger and more expensive 'flagship' cars don't include xenons either, so don't think it's a reasonable expectation really.
