pain in the ebay!

Featured Replies

hi all.

last thursday i won a bid on a car on ebay. its not a full working car, but a project car.

the day after the sale i received an email from the owner, to tell me that the car was being stored at a local garage. the seller/owner then gave me the contact details for the owner of the garage so as i could arrange collection.

i called the garage the same day and we arranged to pencil in Saturday noon for collection, this was to be confirmed once i had arranged a trailed/driver (car is off the road). it was OK'd that i should phone back if the arrangements needed changing.

on sunday afternoon i had the transport sorted, but could only get the trailer/driver for the sunday. no problem i thinks, "i'll just call the garage to amend plans". over the next few days i called what must have been near 20 times, but only got the answer phone. so i left two messages.

by Wednesday i was becoming concerned, so i emailed the seller/owner, to confirm the plans.

next few days and 20 more calls, and still no answer. only now the answer phone was full. now Friday, and i'v sent the owner two more emails. one to say i need an answer soonish, and the second to say i have had to cancel the trailer/driver because i have not received any form of reply from the garage owner, or the seller.

what shall i do?

thanks for reading my rant i E miner.

You have entered into a contract to buy it from the seller, it should be the sellers responsibility to make it available to you. What did it say in the listing?

you are right, by the fall of a hammer, we are in a contract. that is why i have payed for the car via paypal up front.

but the seller MUST then make the item in available for me to collect.

the ad sayed buyer collect. and this is what i am trying to do, but its very hard when there is no response from the seller.

Whoa! You've paid in full beforehand?

What was the end price, if you don't mind me asking? Might have been more sensible to send a deposit and then pay on collection.

Hope you get it sorted....

Steve

Well hate to say it but it sounds so far that you have been shafted. Having said that there maybe a genuine reason why there hasn't been any response. Just try again and if you dont have any luck contact eBay asap. I've fell out big time with eBay and never bother with it these days because of things like this. I too put a bid on a project car a few years ago, then seller emailed me to say it had been 'stolen', funnny thing is, it was on their driveway the next day I passed, just because it didnt make the money they wanted for it! Thankfully didnt part with any cash before hand.

Hope you get it sorted though.

Agree - if was only a couple of hundred notes - cash on collection

Also, where are you, and where is the car? Perhaps some Briskodian assistance can be arranged?

Steve

Ebay is **** for things like that.

I listed a few things.

People didnt pay, i opened disputes.

All that happend was emails being sent too and from, with nothing being sorted.

They should have payed by contract, but no.

Ebay still took my listing fee.

Im pretty sure its the same for buying too.

Ebay and Paypal wont do ****, End of the day their still gettin money.

Best thing you can do is get in touch with your credit card company.

Yeah I agree with above. Basically dont buy anything on ebay for money that you cant afford or dont want to loose. There are lots of scumbags using ebay IMO. I wouldnt consider buying anything from ebay thats over a few hunded quid. Having said that Ive bought loads of stuff from ebay without a problem - its just that you have to accept that sooner or later you'll meet the scumbag - and paypal and ebay wont jump to help you. For instance I bought a dive torch - it leaked - what can i do about it apart from from emailing the seller - who ignored my comments - so I use the torch at home and bought another one from a proper shop. Remember cheap comes at a price !

was only £150. i know were the car is, and i know the owner in a cop. but... the car is in congleton, cheshire. and i'm in north bedfordshire.

Ahh, I understand a little more now, with the amount involved.

Am I correct in thinking that another member tried to buy the car before you, but wasn't successful in the transaction? My point is that perhaps there's a pattern emerging here :(

you are correct, another member has had involvement with this car. but i don't know the story so cant comment.

a bit of good news. the seller emailed to say sorry for not contacting (working shifts)

he also has been trying to contact the garage, with no joy. so he is going to investigate.

thanks to the very helpfull briskodians who have helped me out.

I hope you get it resolved. Be sure to let us know.

Just get your money back via paypal and put a end to it
