Seen The New Estate

Featured Replies

While I was at the dealers this morning I was shown the new Estate, it is quite tall.

If you want to see it pop down to DM Keith's in Bradford and it is behind the brick hut where they jet wash the cars.

that means our ones must be heading this way :) hopefully monday morning i'll have a big transporter with my 2 for the showroom on board :)

what level trim was it?

It was a 1.6 and I think trim 2. It was in dark blue met.

Saw lots at the Factory last year

Went back to the dealer today to pick my car up and the estate is now in the showroom. Had a sit in the back and they is more head height and the boot is bigger. It looks to be a solid car.

yeah but which one did you leave your sandwich in???

The red one :D

Just been to see it at my local dealer (Savilles), they have a 1.9TDi level 3 in the same colour as my Bohemia - its lovely, far far better than the hatch....

Now lets see what the car mags make of it - they think that the new 207 SW is good but the Fabia knocks it into a cocked hat - who needs a Focus or Astra Hatch now?!

Thats the nagging problem I have with the 'new Fabia', it's too tall !

The Roomster on the other hand looks great and imo a better buy than the Fabia.

Must be an optical illusion ....if you put a mk 1 furby up against a mk 2 there's not much in it to be honest

Its just the ride height that looks a bid odd.

Atleast the Mk2 Estate looks like its been designed properly, and not just an afterthought like the Mk1 effort :P

the mk 1 wasnt an afterthought!! its got some nice creases on the rear and was thought out well...dont talk silly!

mk1 is tiny parked next to the mk2 combi at falmouth! and almost as tall as a roomy scout! haha. its not a small car no more!:)

Given its size and "family" appeal, I wonder if the Fabia estate might eventually get a more powerful engine (petrol in particular).

I suppose a possible down side of Skoda's "extra bit of car" is they create small/medium size family orientated cars like the Fabia estate and the Roomster limited to supermini engine ranges. Even the 1.6 could struggle when fully laden.

I think the new small estate competition may have 120+ bhp options

I guess it is possible they will replace the 1.6 with the 120BHP 1.4TSI at some point. New Superb has this engine and Octavia is getting it too.

they sort of tried it with the 2.0 in the mk1 but not many people bought it. it was marketed to be a big engine in a small car to make people sway to just having the feeling of driving a bigger car but in a supermini if they still wanted some refinement.

I guess retaining relatively low price is an important factor too in the supermini segment, especially given Skoda's appeal as a good value car. I've a feeling the 2.0 mk 1 was only available in Elegance trim. The current Skoda policy seems to be to have the same engine ranges in levels 2 and 3. The new VW 1.4tsi 120bhp might be a good choice as the engine size and economy sound more in keeping with the supermini image, and probably wouldn't cost more than the 1.9 tdi
